Little baby blue eyes had just awakened from a nap. Growing babies need a snack after a nap! Sometimes, babies walk right up to nurse, but other times, they need to convince mamas to allow them to nurse. And sometimes, it seems just habit because mamas aren’t going anywhere. That was the case here. Terra was grazing a short distance from Winona and Chrome, who had been grazing within feet of napping Kwana. The little mister – as foals do – walked tight around mama’s head, and she’s raising her head to give him room to walk around her.
Happy, content mama and baby.

Who is that wonderful artist who “hides” her pinto horses in snow and rocks and trees? Does this photo remind you of her art? Maybe I’m just crazy! Terra and Kwana, out in the open, were easy to spot this particular morning before sunrise, but Chrome and Winona were “hiding” in plain sight among the boulders of Filly Peak!

Not long after Chrome’s band lined up for this portrait, the snow dropped in over the basin! It left exactly no trace of its passing. While the rest of Colorado is getting snow, my fingers are crossed that it doesn’t miss us. That pic sure doesn’t look like February in Colorado, does it?

From this week. The cut is fairly small, but like most face wounds, it obviously bled. Most of what you see is just dried blood.

A stallion’s moments

From last week. Comanche ran off Bounce from near Piedra, Temple and Aurora, then Hollywood came from where he was grazing with Mona and Shane and ran off Comanche, then he went after Bounce. (No stallion likes to be caught napping on the job, even by his pal.)
The sun had set, but I didn’t want to leave.
Hollywood was cantering after Bounce. I love his look, frozen in a photo, with his head turned just so to catch the last light of day in his eye. He looks like he’s dancing.
