Girls of summer

14 06 2012

Aka Comanche’s girls.

Lovely Kestrel sporting the remnants of a day at the spa.

Juniper, yearling daughter of Kestrel and Comanche.

Madison, baby daughter of Kestrel and Comanche.

Wild high-desert girl.

Such a beauty.

Love the curlicue swish of the tufty baby tail!

Mama Kestrel and her gorgeous daughters. (Her first daughter, Winona, is with Chrome’s band, which also includes Terra.)

Sisters: Juni and Madi

Walking out of a fairy tale … or into one?

Juni, so divine.

Parting shot.

How beautiful, these girls of summer? 🙂

Sundance on fire

14 06 2012

Sundance at sunset a week ago.

Gotta love that light that dances through his locks and turns the strands to fire.

Too fast

13 06 2012

When did our baby Mysterium grow up to be such a gorgeous young lady?

Of course, she’s not grown up yet. Her first birthday isn’t till August. She’s even still nursing. But what a stunner.

Oh, the color

13 06 2012

Shane, Temple and Piedra at the trickle at sunset.

Mama Mona and daughter Shane.

Hollywood, in defense of his family.

Love that light. Love that color.

Love those ponies!

A little different

12 06 2012

Have you ever seen a black and white image on this blog? I can’t say that I’ve ever posted one! I’m not one who sees in black and white, and I had a visitor – artist Karen Keene Day – who sees in the most vibrant colors imaginable. So maybe it’s a little odd, this black-and-white image, eh?

But I like it. And I hope you do, too.

Baby Temple and Miss Shane.

I love them, and I hope you do, too!

More Skywalker

11 06 2012

From last light a week ago.

What a bonny big lad!

Walking into last light.

Walking with mama across the light from the setting sun.

Looking west at mama’s side.

ADORE this little guy!

More Cassidy Rain

10 06 2012

At last, more pix of the beautiful girl. These are all from her birthday, June 2.

Cassidy Rain with mama Gaia and auntie Aurora.

I like Gaia’s seemingly “challenging” look here, but in truth, she was lowering her head to graze.

Like most first-time mamas, Gaia couldn’t keep from touching her newborn. Sniffing her, licking her, nuzzling her, bonding mama to babe and babe to mama.

A precious thing is the love of a mama for her baby.

Cassidy Rain with her elegant grandmama Alegre (Aurora’s and Gaia’s mama).

These may be my absolute favorites:

Mama checking on her dreaming baby.

Sweet mercy. If you don’t see in this image that babies are the most precious thing to these wild families, I just don’t know how else to convey it. (Creative note: Photos cropped for maximum impact.)

So much beauty and promise in these little bodies. 🙂

Update on an update

8 06 2012

Before I could post the update about Hollywood’s band …

…

I already have another update:

Who’s that extra girl?

The original update was that Hollywood stole Mona, Roja and Killian from Aspen. The updated update is that Kreacher has stolen Roja and Killian from Hollywood. I didn’t see the horses themselves, but I saw images of them on the LCD of a camera owned by someone who DID see them!

Sweet boys

8 06 2012

They don’t seem to be causing too much mischief (any, really). They’re hanging out by themselves – and sometimes with Storm – and occasionally with Bounce. All of them were visible – Storm and Bounce slightly apart (not together), but I got pix just of the three musketeers.

Front to back: Hayden (2 1/2), Apollo (1) and Tenaz (2).

Fat little shiny boys. 🙂

Poco

8 06 2012

He’s … OK.

He’s alone, and his left hock is pretty stocked up.

He has a small, healing wound inside that hock. A puncture, perhaps … or perhaps something else.

He gets around well, and based on the smaller hoof prints in the area, I think he has had visitors (Apollo, with Tenaz and Hayden and possibly Storm, all four of whom I saw with Kiley).

He’s in good shape.

His right knee has been enlarged for quite a while. While he favors it slightly, it doesn’t slow him down. You can see the small wound right about in the middle of his left hock. The protrusion just below the point of his hock is his chestnut.

Poco at home. That’s McKenna Peak (namesake of the McKenna Peak Wilderness Study Area, part of which is included within Spring Creek Basin’s boundaries) in the background, one of our most prominent and identifiable landmarks.

He seems to be doing OK, and he’s moving … if not well, well, he’s moving. It’s not awful, but it’s not normal; he has a definite hitch in his giddy-up.

But I’m awfully glad to see the boy.
