Duke

Duke

It has been a while since Duke made an appearance on the blog, and that’s way too long. The elder mister still is with Kreacher (bachelor buddies), and they were watching Hollywood’s and Comanche’s bands. We first saw him in the shade of a juniper, waiting out some of the day’s heat. Then he decided to come closer to see what we were about. I don’t know about him, but we exclaimed several times about how handsome he is!

Face of a different shape

This pronghorn doe was looking for water the other night in the basin. She found other visitors already there, and she decided not to stick around.

No pix, but a group of two-legged visitors and I saw a mama pronghorn with a fawn on a different visit! Very rare to see the babies. Very cool!

Mama-daughter faces

Cassidy Rain with mama Gaia.

This image was taken while looking for Roja’s baby (who hasn’t yet made her or his appearance). It was a happy diversion!

Above: Gaia with her own big-girl baby, Cassidy Rain.

Tesora, treasured

Tesora with "auntie" Puzzle.

“Auntie” Puzzle and baby Tesora in late-afternoon light. They were waiting with their band to drink at the trickle. There are other, better places to drink, so I wonder whether, sometimes, their drink-spot choices are like one’s favorite bar – a matter of habit rather than availability.

Rain dances, prayers and other mojo to get the drops falling all are appreciated.

Baby, protected

Reya, Spirit and S'aka.

Spirit makes the sweetest filling in a mama-brother sandwich.

A joy to the heart

Skywalker with stepdaddy Sundance; mama Raven is immediately to the left.

And that’s about all I have to say about this image.

Bringing you love from Spring Creek Basin: Skywalker and his stepdaddy, Sundance.

Happy Father’s Day. 🙂

Take care

********************

The devastating fires on Colorado’s Front Range probably are a news story in all parts of the country. So far, two people have been found dead, and more than 400 homes have been destroyed – the lives of more than 400 families in ashes. Many relief and support efforts are under way, for the people AND animals affected by the fires. Closer to Southwest Colorado, there was a giant plume of smoke on the southern end of the La Sal Mountains in Utah, apparently from two different fires.

It is DRY, and it is HOT, and it is WINDY; that’s a recipe for fires. The Utah fires are listed as having been caused by lightning, but (at least) the Black Forest Fire in Colorado was human-caused. Please be careful out there. Prayers for the people who have lost their homes and for rain always appreciated.

Big-belly mamas

Kootenai, Skywalker, Raven and Sundance.

Kootenai, left, and Raven, the other one with the big belly, are counting the days – or they would if they could count. They’re big mamas-to-be.

Sibling spots

13 06 2013

Spirit and S'aka.

Big brother S’aka is protective of his little sister, Spirit.

I found them – via the Jeep – in just about the same spot (heh) as when I hiked in and spotted them from Round Top.

How cute are they?
