Too fast

13 06 2012

When did our baby Mysterium grow up to be such a gorgeous young lady?

Of course, she’s not grown up yet. Her first birthday isn’t till August. She’s even still nursing. But what a stunner.

Oh, the color

Shane, Temple and Piedra at the trickle at sunset.

Mama Mona and daughter Shane.

Hollywood, in defense of his family.

Love that light. Love that color.

Love those ponies!

A little different

12 06 2012

Have you ever seen a black and white image on this blog? I can’t say that I’ve ever posted one! I’m not one who sees in black and white, and I had a visitor – artist Karen Keene Day – who sees in the most vibrant colors imaginable. So maybe it’s a little odd, this black-and-white image, eh?

But I like it. And I hope you do, too.

Baby Temple and Miss Shane.

I love them, and I hope you do, too!

More Skywalker

From last light a week ago.

What a bonny big lad!

Walking into last light.

Walking with mama across the light from the setting sun.

Looking west at mama’s side.

ADORE this little guy!

More Cassidy Rain

10 06 2012

At last, more pix of the beautiful girl. These are all from her birthday, June 2.

Cassidy Rain with mama Gaia and auntie Aurora.

I like Gaia’s seemingly “challenging” look here, but in truth, she was lowering her head to graze.

Like most first-time mamas, Gaia couldn’t keep from touching her newborn. Sniffing her, licking her, nuzzling her, bonding mama to babe and babe to mama.

A precious thing is the love of a mama for her baby.

Cassidy Rain with her elegant grandmama Alegre (Aurora’s and Gaia’s mama).

These may be my absolute favorites:

Mama checking on her dreaming baby.

Sweet mercy. If you don’t see in this image that babies are the most precious thing to these wild families, I just don’t know how else to convey it. (Creative note: Photos cropped for maximum impact.)

So much beauty and promise in these little bodies. 🙂

Ze & Asher update

8 06 2012

It has been too long since we’ve had an update about these two misters!

In Tif’s words: “Asher and Ze are still both doing incredibly well. Asher is now 9 months old, Ze is 3 years old. They finally play together! It’s so cute. It took Asher quite a long time to realize Ze wasn’t going to hurt him; it took Ze quite a long time to not feel he has to run everyone around. He’s definitely in charge here of everyone, but he does it with grace and ease. He’s amazing.”

It all starts around the water tub …

And then there’s an innocent little kiss …

Asher plays coy.

“I was told so many times that orphans don’t turn out well, they’re small, puny, misbehaved, etc. I’m thinking Asher is so big and strong because of the nutrients he got right from the start here. I was so worried about him, being 17 days old: Is he getting enough to eat? How is he going to fare with the others? Everything worked out as it was supposed to. We went from 2-hour feedings, to 4-hour, to 6-hour, etc. I kept him on all milk replacers until he was about 4 1/2 months old. He continued to get creep feed until he was 6 months old, and it worked! I’m sure the mustang genetics also played a role. He just is a success story and will continue to be.”

Ze goes for the leg – a tried and true tactic.

Asher plans a tactical retreat, but Ze is just getting started.

And the chase is on!

“Notice how BIG Asher is! He’s going to be incredible. He IS incredible. He was gelded at 6 months of age. It was time, and he recovered faster than even I expected. I vaccinated everyone here a few weeks ago. They’re up to date on worming and hoof trimming. Everything is as it should be.”

Rounding the back stretch!

And there’s the ambush. Cavalry to the rescue!

“I am truly blessed to have this experience, this opportunity. I have learned so much from these guys. Just when I think I have it all figured out, they teach me something else.

“Thanks, TJ and the Temples for your support, encouragement, knowledge and passion. Without it, where would we be?”

We think the same of you, Tif. 🙂

Update on an update

8 06 2012

Before I could post the update about Hollywood’s band …

…

I already have another update:

Who’s that extra girl?

The original update was that Hollywood stole Mona, Roja and Killian from Aspen. The updated update is that Kreacher has stolen Roja and Killian from Hollywood. I didn’t see the horses themselves, but I saw images of them on the LCD of a camera owned by someone who DID see them!

Sweet boys

8 06 2012

They don’t seem to be causing too much mischief (any, really). They’re hanging out by themselves – and sometimes with Storm – and occasionally with Bounce. All of them were visible – Storm and Bounce slightly apart (not together), but I got pix just of the three musketeers.

Front to back: Hayden (2 1/2), Apollo (1) and Tenaz (2).

Fat little shiny boys. 🙂

Poco

8 06 2012

He’s … OK.

He’s alone, and his left hock is pretty stocked up.

He has a small, healing wound inside that hock. A puncture, perhaps … or perhaps something else.

He gets around well, and based on the smaller hoof prints in the area, I think he has had visitors (Apollo, with Tenaz and Hayden and possibly Storm, all four of whom I saw with Kiley).

He’s in good shape.

His right knee has been enlarged for quite a while. While he favors it slightly, it doesn’t slow him down. You can see the small wound right about in the middle of his left hock. The protrusion just below the point of his hock is his chestnut.

Poco at home. That’s McKenna Peak (namesake of the McKenna Peak Wilderness Study Area, part of which is included within Spring Creek Basin’s boundaries) in the background, one of our most prominent and identifiable landmarks.

He seems to be doing OK, and he’s moving … if not well, well, he’s moving. It’s not awful, but it’s not normal; he has a definite hitch in his giddy-up.

But I’m awfully glad to see the boy.

All I want …

6 06 2012

… are more hours in the day. Or night. Anywhere, really, they could be squeezed in.

Lovely Mariah. How could you possibly be almost 2 months old? A stunner, as all your sisters before.

With babysitter Corona. This is the band to watch for family dynamics with three mares with foals, a yearling and a dry 3-year-old! Doesn’t hurt that my boy Grey/Traveler is king. 🙂

She can run faster than you can! Happy girl, testing the legs.

So many gorgeous ponies, so little time to post photos of them all.
