Heading TO Spring Creek Basin, I found the prince’s plume plants in full, crazy bloom. Why is this crazy, I hear you asking? Because they don’t usually bloom until May. IN Spring Creek Basin, the prince’s plumes I saw were a little behind these along Road K20E toward the basin, which makes sense as the basin is a bit higher elevation than along this road.
Heading OUT of Spring Creek Basin, the grey sky exploded with color at and post-sunset! Wowza. The weather wizards are giving us a whopping NINETY PERCENT chance of rain Wednesday. Do you know what Wednesday is? Wednesday is April 1, otherwise known as April Fools’ Day. Call me a fool a million times over, and please, please, PLEASE, let it RAINRAINRAIN!!!
Spring Creek Basin Mustangs 
Thank you for this absolutely gorgeous Prince’s Plume, TJ! But in March. Yikes. I’m surprised this one is so perfect and good-sized considering the conditions. It seems that often in hard years plants go crazy to produce offspring – maybe because they know time is short and things are bad. Regardless, this one is a gem. And that sunset is a gem too. How stunning.
Crazy, indeed. I was gone for a few days … when I left, they were just starting, and now they’re out in full. Not nearly as advanced up in the basin; I suppose that’s the difference in elevation? But yeah, absolutely nuts. I even saw a handful of globe mallow. Lots of phlox now, and a fair bit of the cat’s eyes. Sunset was a complete surprise, as cloudy as it was. … But glorious. 🙂 I wish I’d been closer to some of the horses I saw at a distance. Even silhouettes would have been stunning!

Oh gosh, me, too, with the rain. We are desperate. It’s amazing to me that there’s water for the horses out there, but my anxiety is high!
