Subdued and muted at the end of the growing season (well past the end, one might argue), but beautiful as we head into the season of cold and white (we hope).

End of the day … the horses were already in the shade of the western ridges while McKenna Peak and Temple Butte were still catching the last light. Tenaz was marching along, and I took a grab-shot from the window of my Jeep.

Today, of all days, give free rein to your gratitude.
We should not forget or ignore or make light of the devastation happening in many parts of the world currently, and in our own parts of the world, we should do all within our power to make things better and brighter for those around us. Hate and ignorance should not rule.
In my quiet, mostly peaceful (hunting seasons from second to fourth (currently) have been not so peaceful …) valley, it’s easy to count my/our blessings every beautiful day – and there are many to count, starting with that very peace.
On this Thanksgiving Day, I hope commercialism is the least of your concerns and the blessings in your lives are the most – and I hope they are many.
I am grateful for my family; their support means everything to me.
I am grateful for friends who are like family.
I am grateful for my mustangs – they fill my heart every single day.
I am grateful for my home and my kitties in this most beautiful of wild places, surrounded by mustangs.
Not least, I am grateful for you readers and lovers of these Spring Creek Basin mustangs. 🙂

Sometimes the key to an intriguing image is to just keep clicking. 🙂 Temple, photographed through the legs of her stallion.

Cassidy Rain is notoriously hard to photograph. As gorgeous as she is, she doesn’t like to pose; she’s too busy eating or ignoring the photographer. 🙂 But with snow lingering on Temple Butte and McKenna Peak (out of frame to the right), I had good incentive to try to catch her, you know, looking gorgeous. Unfortunately, the sun had winked behind a cloud just at this moment, so with her in the shade, the background blew out a little. But you get the idea. Gorgeous and gorgeous-er!
Yesterday, while the lower part of Disappointment Valley was getting rain (yay!), some of the upper northern and eastern ridges got snow!

This is from Disappointment Road looking east-ish across Spring Creek Basin.

McKenna Peak across Round Top. That’s some decent snow!

Temple Butte, obscured by low snow clouds.
We needed this moisture badly.

First-time mama Aiyanna is already well-versed in the behavior of her daughter, Bia. Here, Bia has approached and seems to “check in” with mom before sidling up beside her for an evening snack of baby’s best nourishment. Aiyanna is such an easy-going mama. Bia is a beloved baby (by her aunties and daddy, too!).

Aka Maia. 🙂
Wow. That’s some serious mud immersion! She and her band weren’t far from a pond that still has good water. Hopefully we have some rain coming this weekend. It is dry, dry, dusty dry.
In good news: Today is the last day of third rifle season.

If this pic of pretty Mysterium up to her knees in the east-pocket pond doesn’t help you feel refreshed and relieved … sit with it a while. … It’ll come. 🙂
