The full moon rising over Temple Butte, from the base of Round Top in Spring Creek Basin.
The sun had set by the time the moon rose, and I wish I knew all the techy bits to get the moon exposed correctly and Temple Butte exposed correctly, but you’ll have to take my word for it: It was glorious (as it always is).
While most of this image looks black, that’s actually Temple Butte beneath the rising full moon! 🙂 And the eclipse was already starting when the moon rose over Spring Creek Basin.
You can really see the progression of the shadow taking over in the above two pix. All of the above images were taken from the base of Round Top in Spring Creek Basin. Then, I figured I should head out of the basin while the moon and Earth were doing their thing … and I’d pick it up from farther out in Disappointment Valley as the peak of the eclipse neared.
This was taken at 9:55 p.m.
And this was taken at 10:20 p.m. The “peak” of the eclipse for us in Southwest Colorado was at 10:12 p.m.
Just cool. 🙂 I hope you all got to see it, wherever you live!

Thanks for these photos, TJ! I didn’t get a chance to go out and see it in person so your beautuful photos are the next best thing! The full moon is always so pretty out there anyway but the eclipse had to be just extraordinary to see from the Basin.
It’s a fair miracle that the sky was clear enough to see the moon rise, especially from right above Temple Butte, as there’s usually a horizon-line of clouds *at least* there. And today … clouds. We caught it just right. 🙂 It was *extraordinary*, indeed!

I was blessed to see it guys over our farm. It is always magical stepping out into the night but I was just a few steps from my doorway. I so admire your willingness to lock out into that vastness to capture this majestic moment for us.
That “willingness” was a no-brainer here, really. 🙂 We are blessed to have an extraordinary clear and dark, phenomenal sky to see these kinds of delights!

Oh, I wish you could have seen it. I was amazed the sky was so clear … and later, the moon rose into clouds. 🙂 Hopefully those clouds will eventually give us some rain … but I was glad the heavens were clear last night!
It was behind trees… We keep getting dribbles and drabs of rain. Not enough even to settle the dust. Hard summer all over.
Yeah, that’s our problem … dribbles and drabs … and I wouldn’t even call it “rain.” To call it “rare” wouldn’t be inaccurate. Very hard year … in a run of them.

Amazing photos
Thanks! I struggle with settings each time … and each time, I forget what I did last time! 😉 But I love seeing the moon in all its amazingness, and I love trying to photograph it!
We had some cloud cover. Couldn’t see anything. ☹️
Oh, that’s a huge bummer! I can’t believe it was actually clear here. I’d been trying to catch the moonrise for the previous week, and there were always clouds JUST THERE. On the night it mattered, clear sky (until later). Always wild. 🙂
