The upper atmosphere is trying to gear up to potentially, eventually, maybe – at some point – give us some rain. Soon (we hope).

The evening was punctuated with a few small, very faint rainbows, catching some elusive liquid suspended in the air. The above – do you see it? – was not only the biggest I saw, it was the first of the evening.

Long-maned Sundance, napping, which is to say, perhaps, waiting impatiently for the sun to set, relieving us all with a bit of … if not coolness, at least a cessation of boiling heat. The background was so gorgeously beautiful, but I had to use my phone (as opposed to my camera with its long lens) for the wide view.

Post-sunset in Spring Creek Basin’s wildcat valley, bands were peacefully grazing while rain fell (or seemed to fall) over the Glade to the south.
And as I left them to their evening repast, I found this guy:

Hollywood alone, within sight of the horses in the image above.

Just another low-key evening in Spring Creek Basin. 🙂 The moon is about half-full. Who’s ready for the full, super sturgeon moon?!
Great wide-angle shots, TJ. I’m always amazed at what good pictures you take with your phone! And yes, the monsoon is trying to get started – a few more clouds, a little more humidity, some isolated showers. The predictions for this week look promising… but you know how that works! Hopefully they’re right and the whole thing doesn’t fizzle.
Just like a point-n-shoot! Ugh … I know about fizzles and lying radar. I’m just really, really, really hoping we get a break!
Just beautiful! Hope rain is on the way! So glad Hollywood seems to be doing ok!
Me, too … times two! 🙂
“Just” another evening is just glorious in SCB!!!” Love being with the mustangs in those wide open skies!! Nothing quite like it!!!

This is true, and I’m grateful to be in the midst of it. 🙂
Wow. We’ve had rain two afternoons in a row — not a lot but some is not nothing. Beautiful photos.
Hooray for your rain! Even a little is something, definitely not nothing. I hope it continues for ya’ll … and I hope it starts for us!
Me too!
Will Hollywood always be alone ? Heard there are 2 full moons in August !
I hope not, but there’s no telling. Sometimes (a fair amount of times, in my experience), the older stallions (and the younger guys, too, sometimes) will go off on their own. Sometimes, they hook up with another bachelor or even a band for a period of time … then separate again. It takes a lot less energy to be responsible for his own well-being than a band’s. And yes! Two full moons in August – both supermoons! Make plans to gaze heavenward! 🙂
