Spring Creek Basin Mustangs

So rare … a day in Disappointment Valley without shadow. Even today, with clouds and snow – and no … then snow … then no – we had sunshine. And we had Shadow. And Shadow was content enough to nap, surrounded by her band.

Oh, peaceful heart.

Yes, more snow fell – on and off. It’s so warm, it melts nearly on contact with the ground.

The valley is white. There’s still quite a bit of snow; there’s a LOT of mud, which we view as the wonderful sign of moisture seeping, sinking, soaking into the thirsty earth.

Because he’s handsome. And the snow is deep – and good. 🙂 (And he’s giving us a raspberry!)

Reya lifts her knee high to paw through 18 (or so) inches of new snow after nearly two full days of snow in Spring Creek Basin, Disappointment Valley and Southwest Colorado.

It’s melting fast. Under and around trees, the ground already is bare of snow (!). Can you hear the slurping, gulping of the thirsty earth? Yes. Yes, you can. 🙂

More is coming. Our arms are open wide.

We’ve been waiting for winter all, well, winter.

Sometimes, wishes DO come true.

The entire region got snow for pretty much two solid days.

Middle and lower Disappointment Valley got about 14 to 18 inches of snow.

If you live in Boston, you’re laughing. If you live in Southwest Colorado, you’re on your knees thanking all the gods and goddesses of nature. I’m on my knees, thankful, grateful. Relieved.

This is our summer grass, our summer ponds and creeks and rivers. This, my friends, is life in a dry land.

Welcome, winter. Thanks for the snow. 🙂
