High ’n (not so) shady

Chipeta

We still have some snow left –  in high places and in shady places. The past many days have been gorgeous and spectacularly sunny. We’re looking forward to rain/snow in the forecast today and possibly Tuesday!

Copper

Fuzzy and muddy … and wonderfully handsome. 🙂

Winona

Winona bit off a big bite of snakeweed, and was trying to maneuver it into a chewable portion while watching the other horses of her band a short distance away. Her funny face is a reminder to not take things seriously *all* the time. 🙂

Ty

Ty was warning Copper away from his family. He never had to resort to violence, but he did have to move quickly a few times.

Copper

Copper was visiting beyond his family and making a general nuisance of himself, but it resulted in unusual action shots of the boy (usually, he ignores the camera in order to continue the important business of grazing), so that was kinda fun. 🙂

Chipeta, Temple Butte

Chipeta pops up during grazing in the backcountry of Spring Creek Basin. It was a gorgeous day to hang out with marvelous mustangs!

Aurora

Fuzzy Aurora needs that winter coat … we have rain/snow in our forecast. We have to wait about a week, but moisture is worth the wait.

Copper

Gleaming Copper-boy was watching a pair of mule deer does work their way down a hillside opposite the arroyo in the direction he’s looking.

All that lovely snow is largely gone now, but we’re still reaping the benefits of the moisture.

Piedra, Temple Butte

Lovely Piedra and our fabulous Temple Butte. Really, how lucky are we to have such amazing landmarks to photograph behind our stunning mustangs? 🙂

Balloons in arroyo in Spring Creek Basin.

What the …?!

Balloons in arroyo in Spring Creek Basin.

This isn’t even the first cluster of balloons friend Kat Wilder or I have found in Disappointment Valley *this year* – as amazing as that might be to believe. When I first started wandering the hinterlands, I’d find a couple a year. Now, it’s as bad as finding four or five a year.

And yes, that’s water under the balloons – and horses are drinking there (or trying to).

Friends don’t let friends release balloons!
