Expectant

12 04 2012

Although Corona doesn’t look very wide here, from the side, she is definitely bulging now!

Bounce and Tenaz had split from Seven and Aspen and were down the hill; the girls are watching them … and possibly the pronghorn does farther beyond them, coming up from the arroyo.

Alegre is due in May. Corona’s and Gaia’s due dates are anyone’s guess!

They call the wind …

11 04 2012

Mariah

Roy grew up in Disappointment Valley. How cool is that? He and Sue come back a couple of times each year to visit the wild horses. He found the filly when she was still wobbly. How cool is that?!

Welcome to your windy world, little one. It’s howling – Mariah, you’re right at home!

Flying!

11 04 2012

Alegre, flying through the air with the greatest of grace. Just for fun. 🙂

She was actually evading Grey/Traveler, who was trying to urge her back to the fold.

Big with baby; she’s due in May.

It’s a(nother) girl!

10 04 2012

First (known) baby of the season in Spring Creek Basin belongs to Houdini and Grey/Traveler! 🙂

Baby is boldly marked like sisters Terra and Iya.

Since 2007, Iya has had only daughters, all grey, all but one born reddish, like this beautiful girl.

Houdini is an awesome mama. Not only has she had only fillies the last several years, all her babies have survived.

Thank you so much, Roy and Sue, for passing on this excellent news!

Gilded

10 04 2012

Chrome in the golden light of early morning.

Hayden and Terra – half-siblings. Daddy: Grey/Traveler.

Chrome was highlighted so gorgeously against the far hills, just-gilded with first light.

Alert Winona, watching something in the distance that I couldn’t see.

Gorgeous stallion, perfect backdrop … and he paused in his grazing only to amble to the next tasty tidbit.

Still gorgeous. Still perfect.  🙂

On the run

9 04 2012

Bounce is looking fairly lean these days, roaming the sidelines of Seven’s and Aspen’s little bands and ducking Storm along the way, who also is on the outskirts, having lost Shadow back to David. The old boy has new scars, but he’s alert and handsome as ever.

Here, he’s trotting down a hill to follow after the other horses.

On this day, at least, Storm had the upper hand, err, hoof.

Lots of new scars on the boy.

Wild black stallion!

Always handsome.

Happy Easter!

8 04 2012

Happy spring and hope eternal. 🙂

The message of Easter. Something a bit surprising that renews your faith, eh? Big baby Asher, tough kitty Wyatt and animal angel Tif.

Enjoy the day – I hope it’s beautiful, wherever you are!

Seven, oh Seven

7 04 2012

In a word: Hand…….some!

They went behind a hill, and I went around, thinking they’d graze their way on down the other side, but they were RIGHT on the other side.

Handsome Seven, who looks so much like Grey/Traveler (I’m sure he’s his sire), is 12 this year. After a few months of bachelorhood, he has his mare Roja back, as well as their son Killian, who will be a yearling in May. Seven also is the sire of Ze, star of the last post, and Miss Liberty, adopted by artist Alice in Ridgway.

April 6

6 04 2012

In memory of a beloved horse who has been gone nearly 20 years now, a photo of a mustang boy who shares his birthday and is named after him:

Ze, adopted by my beautiful friend Tif and doing so amazingly well.

Today is a day that always brings me a little sadness, for the loss of my horse … a lot of celebration, for the wonderful years and adventures we shared … and a lot of hope, that everyone can experience a horse like him during their lifetimes. It’s also a day when our fortunes shifted for the better, when we met someone who altered the course of our mustang management for the better.

Happy Friday, folks. 🙂

Kes & Juni

6 04 2012

Juniper and Kestrel, standing just off the road.

Earlier, racing to catch up to Comanche, who was grazing on the other side of the road.
