Maiku watches the progress of a lone bachelor stallion away from the band he serves as lieutenant. The band was moseying along behind him, more interested in grazing after drinking … seemingly content and trusting that Maiku was on duty.
A storm was sorta kinda trying to build up to the east. It didn’t make it to us, but we’re hoping for similar promising weather this week.
Storm puts some *oomph* behind his assertion that another stallion’s presence isn’t welcome. The other stallion got the message.

Happy 90th birthday – !!!! – to my good friend Roy, who grew up in Disappointment Valley and still comes to see the mustangs in the spring and in the fall. I think Storm would agree with me that Roy is always welcome, and any friend(s) of his are friends of ours!

And I saw his daddy last night. He’s doing pretty well. 🙂
Baby Bia has always had an affinity for her “auntie” Rowan. With no foal of her own (yet), Rowan is a cross between mentor and playmate to Bia. They shared this sweet moment after they’d had a drink from a rain-filled roadside ditch, while waiting for mama Aiyanna, auntie Dundee and daddy Buckeye to drink their fill.
If Corazon can be said to have a certain swagger in his step, he can be forgiven; he’d just had a chat with a lone bachelor, who didn’t stick around long.
Pretty Terra looks up from grazing to check the whereabouts of her stallion.
Not to worry; he was just across a shallow arroyo, grazing among the pinon and juniper trees.
We. Got. RAIN!!!!!!!!!!!
Not just a few sprinkles. Not just a couple of drips making dimples in the earth’s dust. But rain, rain, actual, honest-to-goodness RAIN.
Pretty, very, wonderfully, marvelously, fabulously excellent.

Plump pinto Chipeta in the late light. It’s still dry out, but skies are much more promising. … Rain we need; lightning, we do NOT need!
We got rain. 🙂 Just a teeny little bit, but it was enough to dampen the dust and add water to the catchment tanks.
Before that, Gaia looked about as tired of the heat and dry as the rest of us two-legged critters.
