You know you’re doing OK on grasses when it’s hard to get teeny little horse-following birds in focus because there’s always vegetation in the way. π I’m not sure what this LBJ (little brown job) is, exactly, but several more of this color/type and several others that were very dark (might have been females and males of the same species?) were following the horses as they grazed. Based on the focus with which the birds kept up with the moseying/grazing horses, I’m sure there must have been a lot of good bits of yummies for both horses and birds! (The little orange flowers are globemallow.)
All creatures great and small π Fun to see them all sharing so peacefully.
Agreed. Species relying on other species. Some have it figured out. π
That is absolutely adorable. Such a pretty, little bird surrounded by gentle mustang faces. I love this!
The horses didn’t mind them at all, and the birds were quick enough to avoid hooves! π
This is the cutest photo! Nature is such a delight πππ

So true. π
What a great picture!
I love all the big grey faces surrounding the little grey-brown bird. π
That “LBJ” (little brown job) in your picture? So closely resembles those LBJs I love here at my place, so many hundreds’ of miles away – that, if anyone has EVER definitively answered me and said, “That is (insert this name) and could be trusted to tell the truth?
Hasn’t happened yet – I call them ‘is that a finch? a sparrow? I don’t know their genus/latin name, bird watcher common name, but I’m a fan of watching them and their ways, in my local world, every year.
Some year’s I see more of them than others – but, from this day forward?
Meh – I’m on the bandwagon of using TJs moniker for them “little brown job”/LBJ
Simply because, Over nearly 13 years of simply watching them and not asking why or bustin’ my arse to ‘learn more’?
I still, to this day – can only see the difference between the birds in size and the different sounds made – not in color or plummage, etc., to tell between gender/species, generations, etc.
Thus, I LOVE the ‘aka’ LBJ moniker – and will await back lash (if it ever arrives, locally) when I say, “what’s the real name of LBJ over there??”
Figure, locals, who know the birds and put up with me? will laugh themselves silly when I answer, “ya know – that little brown job over there….”
Thanks! you always keep my life entertained and easier, overall – for someday/learn more operations – LOL
I can’t take any credit for the LBJ nickname; it’s been around among birders (or those of who aren’t birders but like birds) for a long time, as far as I know! π
Even Better!! ( in my world!) Shows humour and a love of tradition – all at the same time – Awesome and fantabulous (in my world….) LOL
