That doughnut hole

6 01 2024

You’ve heard the phrase “doughnut hole” in weather-related conversation? How one place or another is in a “doughnut hole” of NOT getting weather the surrounding area or region is getting or has gotten?

Disappointment Valley (at least the lower part) got a skiff or less of snow Thursday morning (no measurable liquid). It was gone (melted) before you could even say “doughnut hole.” A friend west of Cortez (south of Disappointment) got 4 inches of snow. A friend right in Durango got 6 inches! Friends in Aztec, New Mexico (northern New Mexico not far south of Durango), got 3.5 inches of snow. … You see where I’m going with this?

Yeah, it’s a thing.

That’s Disappointment Road looking south. This is the afternoon of the morning it snowed – “snowed” – ha.

‘Course, at the same time, we had THIS view (to the east-southeastish). 🙂 (Note the lack of snow.) That could be a definition of “silver lining.” 😉

(Next forecast snowfall: tomorrow!)

well, sadly donut hole in my age bracket has something to do with health insurance!!! I like yours much better – I think we are getting some actual snow here later today & tomorrow – my son gassed up his plow truck so hes ready!! Sounds like maybe 5-8 inches. From all the “newspeople” you would think it was a HUGE thing. But I remember – back in the old days(when I was a kid) of SNOW!!
Things have changed. But I welcome it – I’ll make the birds & deer happy anyhow.
Hope you do get snow.

The northeastern snow storms have, in fact, made it into my own news feed (though I confess I haven’t read any). Hope you get a good amount of snow to plow. 🙂 Interestingly, WE got some unannounced/forecast snow this morning! Nice surprise!

And we had a little over 2 inches at our house, TJ! Wish you could have had something better than a dust layer. Hope this weekend’s snow will include you and the ponies!

Was that Thursday? How crazy is this: We got 2 inches TODAY! Ha! Cold, but warm and sunny enough to melt a bit. 🙂 Looking forward to another pristine layer tomorrow!

Hop you do not get any more donut holes, but a lot of snow!

Your wish (and ours) came true! As I mentioned above, we got 2 inches of snow early this morning! Maybe it’s the power of wishful thinking?! 🙂

TJ, that’s frustrating to say the least! Ridgway seems to be a donut hole for rain in the summer, not receiving it. Fortunately right now we did receive a fair amount of snow that’s beautiful to look at and good for the land. I will hope and pray for it to come your way as well.

It’s a beautiful view, but would be spectacular if there was snow. 🤞🙏 It comes your way.
