We gots da snow!

16 02 2023

The snow depth varies throughout Disappointment Valley in general and in Spring Creek Basin specifically. Six inches might be the *minimum*. I rolled in until my wheels had trouble rolling any farther through the deep snow. I did the arm test, with my fingertips on the ground through the snow, and the top of the snow was halfway up my forearm, which the ruler at home says is 11 inches!!!

The snow level in the pic above wasn’t 11 inches deep, and Tenaz and friends were browsing calmly among the northwest hills. When I left them, they were all napping, hips cocked and eyes closed against the glare of the pristine snow.

Several inches of snow? No worries! Just another day in the life of mustangs. πŸ™‚

(Not to mention other wildlife; there were at least 50 elk on the upper north rim of Spring Creek canyon. We *know* it’s winter when the elk come to mingle. :))

Now that is a good amount of snow for the Basin..
Good you were able to get to see horses. They look good.
And the elk!

We’re in a lot better shape than northwestern Colorado and southwestern Wyoming, where they have so much snow, they’re starting to do some emergency feeding of elk.

Such good news, TJ! I’m so glad you got a significant “snow event” out of this storm! And as always, Tenaz is just positively effulgent in all that Basin whiteness.

That’s a word I had to look up! Nice one! πŸ™‚ I think we got an average of 8 inches overall (more higher, less lower). It’s awesome! Frigid this morning – minus 5!

Hurrah for you!! Glad someone is getting snow. Its been 40s and 50s here for days & the ground never really gets completely frozen (bad for plowing) altho no need for plowing now – supposed to rain today – so just like out there, everything will turn to mud!
So glad for you that YOU got snow – its so important.

Yep, mud most definitely is in our eventual forecast! For the moisture, we’ll take it!

Yay! We got about six inches which for us now is a LOT!!!! Snow is magic on any landscape and with the horses? Even more magic.

Totally agree. πŸ™‚ Congrats on your snow! Hope your temps weren’t too awful!

I guess whether they’re awful or not depends on where you are. In my nice warm house, no problems. But, yeah, it’s cold. πŸ˜€

Ha – well said. I don’t mind temps into the teens, usually (if I’m layered up!), but temps this morning were a little bit *crisp*. I’m glad that’s not a regular occurrence for us!

We’re looking at -13 tonight. I’m not going to stay up and wait for that…🀣

Oh man. … I have a fire going in the wood stove to stave off the chill. Supposed to be cold overnight here again … but not that cold! Stay warm!

It’s still very pristinely white out there! πŸ™‚

I will do my best — I have a couple of hairy dogs to help with that if things get bad.
