As New Year’s resolutions go, “be humble” and “be kind” go a long way.
Written by Lori McKenna (! no relation to our McKenna (Peak) as far as I know) and sung by Tim McGraw, “Humble and Kind” is a deservedly award-winning 2016 country song.
You know there’s a light that glows by the front door
Don’t forget the key’s under the mat
When childhood stars shine
Always stay humble and kind
Go to church ’cause your mamma says to
Visit grandpa every chance that you can
It won’t be wasted time
Always stay humble and kind
Hold the door, say “please”, say “thank you”
Don’t steal, don’t cheat, and don’t lie
I know you got mountains to climb
But always stay humble and kind
When the dreams you’re dreamin’ come to you
When the work you put in is realized
Let yourself feel the pride
But always stay humble and kind
Don’t expect a free ride from no one
Don’t hold a grudge or a chip and here’s why
Bitterness keeps you from flyin’
Always stay humble and kind
Know the difference between sleeping with someone
And sleeping with someone you love
“I love you” ain’t no pick-up line
So always stay humble and kind
Hold the door, say “please”, say “thank you”
Don’t steal, don’t cheat, and don’t lie
I know you got mountains to climb
But always stay humble and kind
When those dreams you’re dreamin’ come to you
When the work you put in is realized
Let yourself feel the pride
But always stay humble and kind
When it’s hot, eat a root beer popsicle
Shut off the AC and roll the windows down
Let that summer sun shine
Always stay humble and kind
Don’t take for granted the love this life gives you
When you get where you’re going don’t forget turn back around
And help the next one in line
Always stay humble and kind

It’s one of my most favorite songs ever.
Being kind never goes out of style. Kindness costs nothing to give and means everything to receive – and the return on investment is infinite!
What a great and grand resolution … every year. 🙂
Happy New Year, everyone!

This is lovely! Humble and kind are always good. 2022 was not my favorite year, but I managed humility and kindness and I intend to continue in that direction, hoping for better things, but we never know. This photo wants to be a painting, too…
I hope 2023 goes in a good/better direction for you – with more moisture, too! 🙂
Thank you! ☺️

I recently saw a pic of a grey stallion called Running Bear on Instagram, and it brought back such great memories of our pinto Running Bear boy. 🙂 Hope you’re well, Tamra, and happy New Year!
Wow…. Thank you for remembering… was so pleased you could give bear what he wanted and needed all along…blessings
🙏
I hope I *never* forget. Bear was one of a kind, such a beautiful, proud, gentle, amazing soul, and I’m so glad we were able to give him the last, best years of his life. 🙂 Happy New Year to you!
