A telephoto lens compresses landscapes; these landforms aren’t nearly as close in reality as they appear to be in the above photo. … But it sure is dramatic, adding to a beautiful view of a little band in the late evening sunlight.

If you’re local, please join me and Kathryn Wilder, author of “Desert Chrome: Water, a Woman, and Wild Horses in the West,” at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 4, at Cortez Public Library. Kat will read from “Desert Chrome,” and we’ll talk about the mustangs of Spring Creek Basin and our partnership with our Tres Rios BLM folks.
Wow, where are the horses when you took this? I see them but can’t recognize where in the Basin.
You are far away! Sure miss being there.
I was on the road above the dugout. The horses are on the first (westernmost) finger hill. In the middle background is what I call submarine ridge, and in the far background are ridges way yonder southeast of Spring Creek Basin. … Not so far. We’ll see you in the spring. ๐
Any chance of zooming this event for those of us not in the immediate area?
I don’t think they’ll likely do that? I couldn’t even find a website for the Cortez Public Library. Kat’s website is https://wilderhorses.live/ – you might be able to find links to other things she has done there?
Thank you. We visited that library while we were staying in Cortez this spring. I think itโs the most beautiful Iโve ever seen.
We got to hear the 2 of you on a Saturday at the BLM museum. Meet 2 of the rescued mudtangs that day also. So thankful. Thank you again for the daily postsโฃ๏ธ
Correction Dolores Public Library is the one I had in mind that is so beautiful! Hope you have a good turn out for the event.
Ah, yes, that was a beautiful day with the mustangs at Canyons of the Ancients Visitor Center and Museum. ๐ And yes, we think Dolores’ library is amazing!!
Very nice!
Quite a view, huh? ๐
I love all the wrinkles and shadows in that landscape, TJ! Nice effect.
Wrinkles and shadows. ๐ I like that. ๐
