Throughout the month of April, the Dolores Public Library will show several of the big photo canvases from last year’s special exhibit at Canyons of the Ancients Visitor Center and Museum.
I’ll be there from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, April 8, to talk about the mustangs of Spring Creek Basin, so come say hi and/or introduce yourself!

It turns out that April is a big month for presentations about Spring Creek Basin’s mustangs:
Four Corners Back Country Horsemen will host author and advocate Kathryn Wilder and I from about 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday, April 21, at their meeting at the Florida Grange Hall. Kat will read from her memoir “Desert Chrome,” and I’ll run a slideshow and talk about the mustangs.

From 6 to 7 p.m. Friday, April 22, Spring Creek Basin herd manager Mike Jensen and I will offer a presentation about the mustangs. We’ll talk about our management strategies, including PZP, water projects, range monitoring and main points of our recently updated (2020) herd management area plan. This presentation is part of the Four Corners Lecture Series (find them on Facebook).

Finally, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 30, at Canyons of the Ancients Visitor Center and Museum, come and meet the mustangs! Our event last fall with Spring Creek Basin mustangs Whisper and Skipper was such a favorite with visitors, CANM folks invited us back to share these excellent boys with the public. Kathryn Wilder will do a reading from “Desert Chrome,” speaking along with a slideshow of my images of the mustangs, and locals Tif Rodriguez and Keith Bean will be with their boys to talk about their adoption experiences through BLM. Whisper and Skipper would love to see you. š

Spring Creek Basin Mustangs 
I’m very impressed with all the public attention being given to the mustangs. AND you actually have an HMAP – which most HMAs dont – but then most of them dont have such great BLM employees! Congratulations to you and the mustangs for all these public events. Bringing the mustangs story OUT to the public is so very important – more so all the time.
Thanks. š I believe herd management areas do have herd management area plans – part of what sets them apart from herd areas. Those plans may or may not be very updated, but I also think there’s something of a current push to get them updated.
These all sound good for the community to get together and learn about the Mustangs.

Congrats! This is so wonderful! Oh, how I wish I could just travel over and hang out in your neck of the woods for the entire month of April!!! I can’t – still doing mop up operations for daring to be 2 hours travel away from home and being gone for 28 hours – LOL But, well – I guess, I still feel blessed – for at somepoint? I trust you’ll post snapshots and reporting on how each event went – and I’ll get to ‘visit/learn/view’ the beauty of it ALL, from afar, via shared here, moments in time – but happy for you and the mustangs and all those from various fronts, who support the ecosystem and living things within it, by raising awareness – roster seems (off top of my head) much larger than the last event you shared/posted on – so, happy for you in the growing awareness, outreach and partnerships!
