Winona found a low spot in a shallow arroyo on the west side of Flat Top to nap; it was as out of the wind as possible that day. Even in her sheltered spot, she had a good view of the human wandering around in the snow.
You really have to wonder what they wonder about our strange-to-them movements: I’m not grazing. I’m not looking for a spot out of the wind. I’m not with others of my kind. I’m just wandering around, clicking every now and then and making other also-unintelligible noises. What weird creatures! ๐
Oh TJ! You never fail to brighten my day with your observations! Thank you for sharing and caring.
Thanks, Laura! ๐
How cute!
She’s a sweet girl.
Smart girl ! Not sure what they think about us but Iโll bet they find comfort in your presence TJ ๐
I’d like to think so, but I think they mostly think that I’m just a little nutty. ๐
What a wonderful unusual picture of Winona. I almost didnโt see her in the snow! I love this picture of her!!

She IS a little camouflaged!
I think my ONE horse (Brownie T. Horse) didn’t make a big distinction between me, my dogs and other horses. I think as far as Brownie was concerned we were his herd, even if I was sitting on a rock beside him grading papers and Lily the Siberian Husky was sleeping against the fence. As long as we were there, we were his and if he didn’t see us for a while he whinnied and pawed the ground. Of course he was a domesticated horse, but I am sure I was not just the creature who gave him two carrots a day (morning and evening) but company. Maybe Winona and the others just think you’re another horse or don’t think about that at all. “My” herd of Hereford cows has recently gotten a (very large) horse of their own and that guy just stays with them. I really wish we had access to horse wisdom.
They’re much more adaptive and tolerant and inclusive than we are!
Yes! And honestly, in my whole lifetime of loving things, animals, and people, I have never loved anything the way I loved Brownie T. Horse. I can’t explain it but I’m so happy to have known that little, old, painted horse. โค
Love this. A good puzzle piece, I think!
Ha – it would make a great puzzle!
Another one of your wonderful “peekaboo, I see you, photos!” Those mustangs do love to “peek” at you, TJ.
They do. ๐ … I do, too! ๐
