Kudos to eagle-(lizard?!-)eyed friend Pat Amthor for spotting this collared lizard on a rock as we drove by on a gorgeous afternoon in Spring Creek Basin! And she didn’t see it from this angle; she saw it from the left (I’ve backed up here when she shouted “lizard”!), where only the head was visible – almost the same color as the rock.
I LOVE these bright, awesome little dinosaurs!
P.S. We got around 0.21 inch of rain early Monday morning. The green is noticeable, and the wildflowers loved the infusion of moisture. ๐
P.P.S. I’ve been trying to attach the pic to this post for hours without success; hopefully WordPress or my Internet will allow it in the morning, when I’ll try again.
WOW! That was a sharp eye to capture that. Beautiful lizard. Male? Just guessing by the red head.
It’s probably a male based on the overall bright color and size.

I agree about Pat’s sharp eye! Even after I backed up (after she spotted it and shouted), it took me a while to spot it!
Wow! What a long tail on this guy!
It’s probably one of the biggest I’ve seen.
The natural beauty of the wild, and you captured it TJ, thanks
I almost missed it! Fortunately, I took a couple of pix before I opened the Jeep door. I wanted to try a lower angle, and whoosh! It was gone!
Canโt wait to come out and visit.

Hope you get to see one!
That is one beautiful collared lizard, TJ! Good catch on Pat’s part and good photo by you.
True, and thanks! ๐
Well heck. It was sooo colorful!
I’m still amazed you saw that head against the lichen-spotted sandstone! ๐
