Advantage

Chrome’s band is the only band that takes advantage of the water catchment. Not sure why this is, but I’m glad they know where the good water is!

Possibly the other bands have their own sources of water? I hope that cachement is never used to trap the horses, unless it’s for treatment and release.

The catchment likely will not be used for bait trapping because many of the horses do not travel/forage in that area. But please understand, our use of fertility control is to SLOW population growth, NOT stop it. The periodic removal of horses will continue to be necessary, hopefully fewer horses less often. The very limited area and resources of Spring Creek Basin simply cannot sustain a great number of horses. While marveling at the continued excellent condition of the horses – even and/or especially in this exceptionally dry time – you have to realize that it is because the population has been kept at a level that the basin’s forage and water resources can sustain – in other words, because of periodic roundups and removal of horses.
