‘Female rain’

7 07 2012

It has been raining – softly and steadily – for about three hours now in Disappointment Valley. The rain ringed Spring Creek Basin all morning and afternoon, then hit the eastern side of the basin around 5:30 p.m.

Heavenly.

Divine.

Something so simple, so wonderful. So longed for. So grateful for.

“Female rain” is this very type of slow, gentle, nurturing rain. “Male rain” is heavy with lightning and thunder and bravado.

I can’t remember whether that’s attributable to the Navajo? But I’ve always loved it. Perfect.

Just think how Spring Creek must be flowing now! 🙂

How wonderfully wet and slaked the horses must be – they likely knew long before humans that the rains would come again.

True enough! They live so “in the moment”! I can’t wait to get back in and look at the ponds! This will go a long way toward filling them again!

Looked like one of Chrome’s mares (Tera?) may be pregnant? Let’s pray for more rain.

I am really hoping Terra is just in spectacular condition. She does look very round … but she has looked just like that for months! I am definitely keeping an eye on her pretty self. By the looks of the sky, could definitely get more rain! I really hope this is the beginning of our normal monsoons!
