Comanche’s band walks past the unnamed promontory, one of Spring Creek Basin’s premier, most recognizable landmarks.

Just some good ol’ boys

20 09 2014

Kreacher and Duke

Pals Kreacher and Duke are such handsome boys, and oh, so photogenic. Now and then they make the social rounds, but mostly they’re together, by themselves.

Skywalker, S'aka and Apollo

Skywalker, Apollo and S’aka are three of the four mustang-ateers. Killian is the fourth boy in the band, but you know boys – so hard to corral. ๐Ÿ™‚

Backlit

Winona against Spring Creek canyon.

Beautiful Winona. This was taken the same evening as the photo published a couple of posts ago. The rimrocks of Spring Creek canyon, lit up by the setting sun, provided a spectacular backdrop for this gorgeous girl. The touch of purple in the foreground: some kind of aster? They’re everywhere right now.

The chances of rain in the forecast for the end of this week dried up and became zero percent chance. The radar showed big green blobs south of the basin, but that rain didn’t quite hit the target (the “target” placed on the “map” by yours truly, of course). Odile dumped lots of rain and caused flooding damage from Mexico toย Arizona. Can we get just a little bit of that moisture? We’re not greedy!

Kwana

Kwana at sunset. It seems like just yesterday, he was a wobbly legged bay boy. He does still have those blue eyes.

On the move

Bounce

This image makes me wonder where he’s going and who’s going along with him. Maybe he’s on his way to meet a girl. He has a rakish look, doesn’t he? But he might want to consider a shower; there’s a bit of a smudge on his cheek. ๐Ÿ™‚

Edge of light

Kestrel

Kestrel takes in the view, but from my perspective, she IS the view! She was first up the hill and scanned for potential danger(s) before the rest of the band followed.

Long shadows

Winona against Spring Creek canyon.

Do you think our wild horses sometimes pause to enjoy the beauty of the world around them? They’re inextricably entwined with that beauty, so much a part of it that the land would seem empty without their presence.

Peace is easily found in Spring Creek Basin, unlike in many other parts of the world. Today, especially, we wish for peace to touch people all around the globe.

Shimmer

Gaia

“And the dust raised by my ponies was smoke from my altar, offered up to God above. …

Bounce

“My ponies, sleek and dancing, were all a (wo)man would need. …

Hayden

“You may see me in the dust that shimmers in the half light or hear me in the whisper of the grass so green and tall.”

~ Dave Stamey, “The Vaquero Song”

I love this song, about masters of horsemanship, and also that it honors the horses of those vaqueros.

Hello, beauty

Cassidy Rain

Pretty Cassidy Rain is “another (beautiful!) bay mustang”! ๐Ÿ™‚ Having a decided weakness for bays, I think she’s gorgeous!
