Why did the turkeys cross the road?

26 01 2017

Wild turkeys!

Because it was less full of distracting vegetation for the resident paparazzo!

OK, full disclosure: These turkeys weren’t in Spring Creek Basin. But they were/ARE in Disappointment Valley, very close to the basin. And who doesn’t love turkeys?!

Wild turkeys!

They have some gorgeous feathers, don’t they?

Another note: It’s hard to get in-focus photos of turkeys. Those little heads are harder to focus on than, say, big mustangs. 🙂

Sun ‘n mud

Copper

Lessons from mustangs during mud season:

Don’t be in a hurry.

Step on solid ground.

Be deliberate.

Enjoy the sunshine. 🙂

Never enough

Sundance

We never get tired of looking at these magnificent mustangs, eh? Don’t answer that; the answer is obvious. 🙂

Grey like the day

Maia

Our May showers are here in January. 🙂 And Maia is ready to greet the flowers (to come)!

Oh, so handsome.

Gittin’ ‘er dun

Mysterium

So pretty, in all weather. The little bit of snow we got melted quickly – more moisture for us!

Mysterium knows how to make the best of all conditions. She greets those conditions as they come and always makes the most of the opportunities

Hollywood

Hollywood looks like he’s doing the four-step through the mud in pursuit of his band on a grey day in Spring Creek Basin.

We have more rain and snow in the forecast, and it’s still damp out there. We’re beginning to look forward to an awesome spring. 🙂

Pinto pony on a ridge

Maiku

Maiku pauses to pose handsomely on a little ridge in southern Spring Creek Basin.

We finally got some sunshine, which seems a little crazy to point out because we have more than our fair share of sunshiney days. Usually. This winter has been unusually cloudy, and wet.

And we’re not complaining at all. 🙂

White-face boy

Skywalker

Skywalker gets more handsome every year, doesn’t he? He was looking out toward Spring Creek canyon (you can see the rimrocks in the background), then turned back to me.

Oh, yeah, pal. It’s gorgeous out there. 🙂

Spots of white and grey

17 01 2017

Ty at the end of a day of "trying to snow" in Spring Creek Basin.

This is how Disappointment Valley looks these days: Spots of snow on the distant hills, not so much underfoot, grey skies and a whole lotta mud (which isn’t necessarily obvious from this image) – and lots of furry mustangs. 🙂

We’ve had some amazing moisture this winter. Truly, it’s a winter to remember – and one that we have needed to give our vegetation a good soaking.
