The things we light

27 05 2024

In the late light of day, the ridge below Filly Peak was shadowed, but the (poor dead) pinon or juniper tree was lit like a flame. It made the perfect complement for highlighted Rowan as she looked back to check in with her band mates.

It’s also perhaps a fitting image as we think about Memorial Day and the reasons we remember the sacrifice of American men and women who died while wearing the uniforms of various branches of the United States military. In honoring their service and ultimate sacrifice, we are hopefully unified as over not much else these days. And we can honor their commitment to their country, their families and the peace most of us enjoy every day.

Just the necessities

26 05 2024

Buckeye is … just about perfect. 🙂 He has everything a stallion should have: family, freedom, good grass and (decent) water. He’s also perfectly content.

No work, no problem

25 05 2024

Winona has been feasting on spring greens – which are growing despite our terrible lack of rain – and she’s looking a bit more plump than she did in late winter. It helps that she doesn’t like to expend any more energy than necessary, which is the perfect attitude for napping on a warm, windy day!

Pause

24 05 2024

Tenaz and Skywalker take a moment to pause their chat while a mare walks by. Tenaz is a good lieutenant stallion, and Skywalker perseveres.

It all comes together

23 05 2024

Mustang (gorgeous), sunshine, storm shadow in the distance, rimrocks, mountains … who could ask for more?!

Rowan was watching a band not too close on a neighboring hill. She sometimes seems to act in a watchful, protector mode for the rest of the band.

Waves of beauty

22 05 2024

It’s getting pretty warm out, and heat waves distort long views. But they can’t detract from simple beauty, here, featuring Maiku and Corazon.

We also get some nice rain-promise clouds in the afternoons sometimes … but they haven’t dropped any rain on us.

Light-kissed

21 05 2024

So-pretty Aiyanna. The light loves her … and so do we.

Near and far

20 05 2024

Watching Buckeye sauntering toward his mares under Rowan’s neck made for an interesting perspective.

Mane day

19 05 2024

Another windy day. I think the mane faeries love windy days more than any other days.

Home, sweet home

18 05 2024

One more of Hollywood from that gorgeous evening high on the ridge below Brumley Point. What a handsome boy in a glorious place. We should all be as lucky as Hollywood. 🙂
