Piedra is one of the loveliest mares in Spring Creek Basin (which is saying something given how gorgeous they ALL are).
Check out the grey mane at her withers … and the black mane are her crest. But look closely to see the cutest black-tipped graceful-long mustang ears you’ve ever seen.

He’s a big braw bay boy. Aspen, named for the upside-down aspen leaf on his forehead. No aspen (trees) in Spring Creek Basin, but those higher up the valley are starting their seasonal change. The cottonwoods won’t be far behind.
By their labor, this country was born – even before it was America.
Pretty grey girl Juniper in a greasewood “forest.” She’s so grey now, she looks almost blue. Such a lovely!
Hollywood is just another handsome mustang in just another gorgeous place in just another tiny corner of the West. And thank goodness for all those “justs.” They *just* add beauty to our world!
A frog in the desert? Yup. Disappointment Valley got a few drops of rain – enough to hit the water catchment’s aprons. In the puddled water at the base of one of those aprons was this little critter. S/he seemed to be alone. There’s rain in the forecast, but we’ve had a tough time getting it to actually fall on the target (that’d be Spring Creek Basin). But our range and ponies still look pretty great – especially for September.
The life of a wild stallion isn’t all mares and roses. Thankfully, mustangs seem to heal ultra fast. 🙂
