Buckeye. Sometimes I call him “Grey” without really thinking because he reminds me so much of his (likely) great-grandsire Grey.
(The thing behind him is the back of a marker used by Colorado Parks and Wildlife in their grid patterns to count elk and deer from the air. There are at least a few of them in Spring Creek Basin that I’m aware of. And I’m not sure whether CPW actually still uses them; they’re from the days when it was Colorado Division of Wildlife. Buckeye was getting some good use out of it as a face, poll, ear, jaw and neck scratcher, then as a butt scratcher before I took this pic. :))

Happy autumn equinox! The days already are getting noticeably shorter, and I am sooooo happy for autumn to arrive after a very long, very hot, very dry summer!
I’m grateful for autumn too, TJ, my favorite season. But I hate what comes after. Winter. Don’t like the cold, don’t like the dark, and don’t like the lack of green things and flowers. Hope we have a long autumn! And dear Buckeye, didn’t know his family line is Traveler! Cool.
I have decided that winter is my favorite season after autumn. 🙂 Summer means (to me) devastating dryness, biting flies and gnats always buzzing, weeds I can’t do a thing about and constant worry about the horses finding enough water and enough forage. Winter has its own challenges, of course, and I think this will be a difficult ones for the horses, even if we get snow, because there just wasn’t a lot of growth this past growing season. That said, they’re tough in every season! Yes, Buckeye definitely takes after Grey – very clearly. 🙂
I hear you, TJ. I don’t like summer much either, for the same reasons. My second favorite is spring…if we have one…which is rare. It’s either an extention of winter or nonexistent because we go directly from winter to summer.

Ha – I think winter might be loved only in places like Colorado, where the snow is awesome and much needed and not just something to struggle through till spring. 🙂 My Ohio relatives think I’m crazy for loving winter, too!

Polo apparently is another of those very-fast-accelerating hurricanes pushing into the current climate situation. I’m glad we won’t bear the brunt of it (sorry, Mexico!), but I’ll be very glad if we get even a little moisture out of it here in southwestern Colorado! Our nights are getting cooler, thank goodness. 🙂 Good luck to your garlic!

I’m loving these somewhat cooler temps. Autumn is my favorite season. Bring on the rain. (Just wait till my roof and outside walls are up on my new house) I moved down to the valley, it was getting too hard to manage the property myself. I miss my mountain, but I won’t be putting a lot of miles on my car now. I live in the country so I still have my privacy.
