Full ‘blood moon’ wow!

3 03 2026

Did you see it??

This early morning’s lunar eclipse sure enough featured the “blood moon” phase of totality, as seen above from Spring Creek Basin over Disappointment Valley in southwestern Colorado.

It.

Was.

COOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Leaving the shadow.

What an amazing experience to see the moon go from full brightness to pretty dark (OK, that might also have been the clouds during the full first half of totality) back to super bright just before it set over the southwestern ridgeline of Disappointment Valley.

I hope ya’ll saw it. If not, allow the anticipation to build before the next one, around New Year’s Eve/Day (?) in 2028/2029! 🙂

I bet it looked magnificent over your mountains … if the moon was still high above?

I set my alarm to get up to watch, but I just shut it off and continued snoozing . ☹️ Hopefully I’ll not do that for the next one.

Your photo is beautiful.

I was afraid I’d do that, too! 🙂 But I woke up an hour ahead of my 2:20 a.m. alarm setting, so just got up (because I was afraid I’d go back to sleep). I’m feeling it today! But it was SO worth it – and it was cold enough while I was out (38F) that I was well awake for the show.

Really great pictures! It was overcast here so didn’t get to see it!

Super bummer! I was afraid we were going to get skunked … but the clouds *finally* moved out of the way, and then it was glorious!

I was wondering whether you saw it setting out over the water? 🙂

Thanks for these photos, TJ! Sadly, I missed it in person, just forgot to look at the right time. Your photos gave me a second opportunity!

It was an early morning, for sure. 🙂 I was wide awake for it, but I’ve been paying for the early wake-up since then!
