The Deer Creek Fire started Thursday (cause is as yet unknown) at the base of Utah’s La Sal Mountains.
During the day, smoke settles over all of Disappointment Valley, and the mountains are obscured.
As evening settles, so does the smoke, and the mountains appear against the horizon … along with the smoke plume.
The above link lists the fire at 4,000 acres, but according to app Watch Duty, it has grown to 7,000 acres as of almost 10 p.m. Friday.

Be careful out there, folks, no matter where you live, work and/or recreate.
Any fire in these times is scary. We had some small ones here in NY & NJ a while back. I have a friend outside of Lucerne Valley in Cal. – shes up by Big Bear and it gets scary there.
It gets scary here, too. The entire West is on wildfire alert (as usual). Stay safe.
This is such a terrible fire, TJ. The smoke is really bad here too but not as heavy as you’re getting. You and the ponies are so much closer to the point of origin. I’ve read that it started on private property – and now 7000 acres. This one hurts; we love that country over there west of Paradox. Hoping so much that they can get a handle on it soon.
It’s up to 10,000 acres now. 😦 Yes, it will be hard to see the devastation when the smoke clears. Hopefully good growth comes from it … but we need rain badly!!! (And NO lightning!!!!!)
So sad to see this and I hope it will be under control soon – may you and the horses stay safe too 🙏
Sorry I didn’t get this approved sooner; I haven’t checked comments for a few days. Thank you for your recent likes. And thank you for your wishes for our safety! Fortunately, we’re at a fair distance, and that fire isn’t likely to affect us other than smoke. … But it’s only midsummer. 🙂
We are concerned for you and our mustangs 💗
We’re all OK (other than smoke). There’s a lot of land between us and the fire. Thanks, Karen. 🙂
I’m thankful to hear th
Hope the fire gets controled soon! We had we had smoke here in MI from the fires in Canada! It was not fun!
I was just reading about the terribly smoke in the upper Midwest from fires in Canada. The article called it some of the worst air quality in the country! 😦 As bad as ours has been, I’m so sorry to read about yours! Stay safe!
I thought about you when I heard about this fire. Our skies have cleared out a bit because the wind came up, but yesterday was very smokey.
I think we’re getting smoke not only from the Deer Creek Fire but also the bad fires at the Grand Canyon and also Black Canyon of the Gunnison. Dunno which way the wind swirls … but it does swirl, and we are all just dry, dry dry. Thanks, and stay safe!
Super scary times for all. Stay safe
So true, in so many ways. We could use a little of your rain. 🙂 Bring some back with you, will ya??
