The background is, once again, a fairly dominant ridge in Spring Creek Basin known locally as Knife Edge (at least, that’s what it was called when I started documenting the horses many moons ago, and that’s the name by which *I* know it). This time, it provides a fabulous – and color-coordinated – backdrop for lovely Maia, who was quite interested in the presence of two of her band mates, only barely visible in an arroyo.
It’s hard to tell – and she’s remarkably mud-free – but the ground in this part of the basin is still pretty damp and greasy (getting in and out of or up and down any even slightly sloped sides of arroyos, by either (wo)man or beast, is a slippery business!).
Rain, then snow coming tonight?! It should be less damaging here than in California … and we also need the moisture quite a bit. (California readers, I hope you’re all on high ground and safe! It’s wonderful to read that the rain pounding your very dry state (and blanketing your Sierra Nevada) is resulting in significant increases in the levels of many of your reservoirs!)
The pictures you take of the horses and the land show the beauty.
That’s the goal! π
Pretty girl! Hoping for more moisture! I love doing puzzles, and this would be another great one!
Pat – who comments on the blog (above) – and her husband gave me a puzzle just a couple of years ago from a pic I had taken … of my orange-and-white cat in my big silver poplar tree! It was awesome … and not easy! π
“Color-coordinated” mustang for sure! They certainly compliment their spaces…in more ways than one!
We need some moisture to wash those grey coats. π I do love their coordinating colors and tones!

She’s lovely. There is a dim promise of snow here Tuesday. I am not holding my breath.
I do hope it sweeps across the San Juans and leaves at least a measurable amount in your big valley!
Thank you — I hope so, too. Bear and I need a snow walk and the valley needs the moisture!
Ah, snow walks! It reminds me of a pic I saw this morning about snow in Crested Butte. A person was riding a bike on a street in town … and the walls/banks of snow were taller (by much) than the cyclist! I can hardly fathom that. … Even our mud had nearly dried here in a good portion of our lower valley. I hope you and Bear get your snow walk!
The rain as welcomed as it is has played havoc on my property. Several trees uprooted. One laying on my power line. PGE took care of it. The runoff Creek that my driveway goes over flooded and left large ruts. I’m going to have to redo about 800 feet of my driveway when we dry out. The down trees will make good firewood next year. Other than that I’m holding up okay. Rock slides on the highway to the valley have all been cleared.
Amazing to hear about your situation with all the rain in California! Too bad about your uprooted trees, but good to find the positive. Yikes about your driveway! Hope it’s safe for you to get to town for necessities – and do STAY safe! You’re not out of the woods yet, according to the forecast!
