Parts of the basin got a wave of graupel yesterday evening.
Later, it snowed. … Yep, SNOWED. Big, fat, lovely flakes. They all melted on impact with the ground, my sweatshirt, the horses’ fuzzy coats (still, a bit) and windblown manes and forelocks. We did get some moisture out of it … as my slightly muddy shoes showed when I got back to the Jeep. 🙂
It wasn’t nearly enough, but it sure was nice.
Lets have more!
More wet stuff, indeed!
Glad you got a little something wet, TJ! We had the usual – howling wind and dusty air.
We’ve had quite a lot of that, too. At this point, some nice, steady rain would be super nice (!).
Love the pintos! Hope you get more moisture soon!
Thanks, Karen. 🙂
Wow! That’s strong positive- negative space in this mustang’s color pattern!!

That’s Chipeta. 🙂
Graupel – I remember my son coming home and informing me of what he had learned in his science class at school (when we lived in Park County and I had mentioned about it delivering pea sized hail in fall/spring) – his teacher told him we live in one of the FEW areas in the world where graupel happens – I am not a scientist and it’s going to happen whether I research it/disprove is teacher’s statement, etc., but it made me view the ‘times’ of graupel in a whole different frame of mind, overall – – based on my son’s teacher’s theory? Graupel falls and I think, to myself, when I witness it, I think, “Hmm…how many folks in the world will never see this?” and well – to date? YOU are the first person I have followed, chatted with via comments, etc., that mentioned the term! the FIRST! Only took about 15 years waiting for someone else to show up and use the term Graupel – and, well, I confess, I’ve been spelling it wrong in my mind all these long 15 years – – LOL
I learned about graupel when I moved to Colorado in 2001 – from Texas – to work at the Durango Herald. I don’t know where else in the world it graupels (!?), but it’s definitely normal for us (well, if any kind of moisture can be said to be “normal” these days!). 🙂
As long as the moisture arrives and doesn’t destroy everything while it is delivered, for me, I guess, I’ll TAKE it, no matter what the tech term is for it!! LOL. I ran errands yesterday and a clerk asked me if I was tired of the snow – and it was cold yesterday and today – and yet, I just shrugged and said, “bring it on! I don’t want to be in Fire Danger starting June 1st…..LOL
