Yes. At least, I carry them with me (usually). I took them Friday and never used them, and I didn’t take them Saturday and could have. It turned out that I didn’t walk very far either day. The snow was much deeper yesterday, but I ended up walking out to only one band, and they weren’t very far from the road, and I wasn’t with them very long. 🙂
TJ, trying to remember distance parking area is from the main road (to Naturita)? Been a while since I’ve been up. May bring visiting son to photograph with his very long telephoto.
Rarely comment, but still start my day with your posts. Deeply appreciate and hope all is well in your world. Happy rest of holidays.
Hi, Barbara! There’s not a parking area? From Road 19Q (also known as Disappointment or Disappointment Valley Road), it’s three miles on Road K20E to the basin boundary. If you come now, drive a vehicle with high clearance and reliable four-wheel drive. I’ve been on the road (we have almost 6 inches of snow) in both my truck and Jeep, but someone tried to follow my tracks across Spring Creek yesterday, didn’t make it and had to turn around in the bed of the arroyo. With the frigid temps, it’s OK now, but I would advise **extreme caution**!!! When all that snow starts melting (and we’re supposed to get more Wednesday), it’s going to be inaccessible by vehicle for a while.
Do you use snowshoes when there is that much snow?

Stay warm out there. It’s cold here. I’m wearing long johns under my clothes when I walk in the morning.
An update: I used my snowshoes yesterday and hiked miles across the basin. 🙂 It was stunning!
Wow! Glad for all the snow!
What a great sight, TJ! We had some of that too – we’re all happy campers!😃
Nice!
