The thrill of anticipation, surpassed only by the joy of arrival!
With a face like that, it can only be …
Raven’s little blackbird!
Baby and the family. They gifted me with the most gorgeous visit … I can’t begin to tell you how my heart sings just to sit with them in their world, on a hilltop surrounded by hills and valleys and open sky. It’s a place so full of magic, wild life, you can’t help but be touched by world’s grace.
One bit of distressing news: Apollo is missing from the band. I’m hoping he shows up with youngsters Hayden and Tenaz. I haven’t posted pix of them yet, but they’re together.
Sundance, baby’s stepdaddy, snoozing with the band. Kreacher is the colt’s sire; he lost the band to Sundance just before the roundup last fall. Apollo is baby’s full brother, and Mysterium is his half-sister.
One little teeny spot marks him a pinto like mama. I had wondered whether she would eventually pass on her spots … but I’m not sure baby will stay black like her. He’s sort of “faded” in the middle, and I’m guessing he will go grey like daddy.
Showing off more white, preparing to lie down near sister.
Speaking of Mysterium, isn’t she growing up gorgeous?
Do you not love that face?!
And the big mustang walk already. π
Let’s hear it: Awwwwwww!
Welcome to your wild world, little one!

wow! he’s quite the looker! Gorgeous little guy. Love that little teeny bit of a spot like mama
Isn’t he a little stunner?! π I love that he takes after mama so much!
What an adorable foal! Would you say his white spot is larger then 2″? Because I think I read some place, that horses are only classified as paints if they have a white spot larger then 2″ that isn’t on their face or below their knees or hocks. Not 100% on that, though.
And the first thing I thought when I saw his face, is that he has markings like Iya! Is he related in any way?
Oh that was me, by the way. WordPress keeps giving me trouble and telling me i have to log into the account that I have that I never use to post a comment.
It’s probably close to 2 inches. Isn’t there some other term for minimal white – cropout? Maybe I’m thinking of something else. I’m not too familiar with pinto patterns. But if he does go grey, his spot will just blend in! π
On the side of his face, his blaze takes an upward “zip” – like Terra’s blaze. She’s Iya’s little sister! Kreacher could be related to either Grey/Traveler or Houdini? He was already mature when I started documenting the horses, though, so I don’t know for sure. At the least, he likely descends from one of the two grey stallions introduced in the 1990s, which would probably make him related in some way.
Such a beautiful baby,I love his face on the left side,I hope he stays black. Mysterium is big for a 9 months foal. And looks like Kootenai is showing some belly too.
Gorgeous colt love the all the white!! He looks light around eyes and muzzle like a greyish color if this is so then he will turn grey!!
He’s very “faded” on his barrel and hindquarters, so I think he will likely turn grey. I’m still waiting to see what Aurora (Alegre’s yearling filly) will do. She looks so black … but so was Sable, and she finally started fading to grey as a 2-year-old. I love to watch their colors. π
Mysterium does seem big now … as petite as she was as a foal! It surprises me when I see her nurse. Kootenai should be ready to start weaning her, but she doesn’t object at all yet.
Wow! What a beautiful baby! And that face – incredible! Every shot you took shows just how truly gorgeous he is! Well done, kiddo! It’s probably no secret to you that we were both really hoping Raven would have a colt!! Wish we could have come up this spring! We miss everyone and are still keeping track as best we can… It never gets “old” does it?! π
Never gets old. π I’m glad she had a colt, too.
Hey TJ! Love ravens new foal!! I really like to see it when mares have foals that look allot like them!!
I just had a thought, I think that Raven could be the daughter of the stallion named Lightning in the sandwash basin… What do you think?
I just remember seeing him that first time and loving him ever since. Thank you for this especially and for always being there to care for the horses. I remember Skywalkers face so striking form a mile or more away!
He was a handsome baby, and he’s a handsome stallion! I love watching these amazing horses grow into their legs and personalities! What a journey we’re on. π
