Waiting

13 05 2012

So many photos, so little time to get them posted!

But here’s a recent pic of Raven, in all her big-belly glory!

Raven and Mysterium. This picture doesn’t do Raven justice. The lady is very large.

Corona looking much less pregnant even than previously, and Gaia showing a bit of her growing middle. The girls are watching Sundance’s band.

Just a matter of waiting. Mama knows best!

Hi TJ, I have a question for you and I don’t know if you will have an answer. Roja looked so sad after the loss of her foal, but what caused me greater alarm was the fact that if she had been pregnant, she didn’t have that ‘baby belly’. Could she have had a false pregnancy? Had she been administered PZP? Or do mare who abort foals or lose them to whatever, NOT have what seems to be a hormonal response (baby belly)?

Corona looks good for having lost her baby (better than Roja). But having just gotten back from seeing several bands in NM/CO…it seemed all the recently foaled mares still looked pregnant (aka baby belly).

Just wondering.

Thanks for the wonderful photos. I feel as if I’m back ‘in the field’.

Well, I don’t have an absolute answer, but I have a theory: Youth. 🙂 Luna always looked still pregnant, even after she just had her foals, but she has a few years on Roja. And this was just Corona’s first. I don’t think you can attribute a human emotion like “sadness” to Roja. She is healthy and doing fine. She showed every sign of being pregnant, and she sure should have been. Wild mares sometimes lose their foals. Roja has never received PZP (or PZP-22).
