Girls rule

13 03 2012

The boys get all the press, but it’s the girls who call the shots.

Do you get that from this image of Piedra and Hollywood? She’s totally in control.

He wooed her when she was still in her family band. He has lost her – briefly – a couple of times, but he always gets her back.  When Comanche stole most of Holls’ band last spring, the one he didn’t get – who didn’t leave? – was Piedra. All of her foals are his foals. This year’s will be their fourth.

He seems to like to be close, but he also gives her quite a bit of space. Comanche, Kestrel and Piedra grazed close … then away. Holls was close, but they drifted while grazing, comfortable apart.

Who can blame the boys really? 🙂

She looks very serene. Maybe she is his ‘Madonna’ of the SCB?

I love to watch horses, I have an old alpha mare, she is the QUEEN< she decides everything that goes on in my little herd. My 12 year old geldin is in love with her, and pesters her a lot, usually she tolerates him ok, but he really bothered her the other day and ignored all her subtle communication efforts, SO, she finally lost it, and kicked him across the pasture, he ran backwards as fast as he could, with an expression of dire alarm on his face, 2 minutes later, he was back bothering her again. He thinks he runs things, but he is clueless, My Mariah is the boss lady of my herd!`

Isn’t that how it always is? We have a 20-something Quarter Horse mare and a 33-year-old Arabian gelding at home. They’re very close, too, but he is much more obvious about it. They’re not often far apart. 🙂

My 2 are inseperable too, she acts like she can’t stand him, but they eat together and spend much of the day together, thanks for all the updates, it’s great to see them all looking so good.
