Silver and snow

And a million other colors, too.

Baby Aurora nuzzles mama Alegre … whose dredlocks grow ever longer. The ends brush over the sage and saltbush when she grazes.

Talk about a splash of color! Against the glare of sunlight and snow, from a distance, she looked as black as ‘Rora.

With sister and mama.

It’s not an easy thing, photographing a wee black girl against a big white world.

Easier to shoot white on white!

Especially sprinkled with a dash of copper color!

Pale girls stand out against far blue hills.

She looks serene but for the settling toss of her mane! Caught a pause while she was rolling.

Isn’t she shiny and gorgeous? Looks so much like daddy Bounce.

Beloved boy is taking excellent care of her …

… of them all.

Silver, shining.

Oh those black ones are hard to photograph! Having owned black dogs (and exactly why is it that shelters can’t get people to adopt black dogs? peeps don’t know what they are missing!) and tried to photograph them I know the challenge. My friend had a black Gt Dane show dog and just to kill the last pic on the roll I just barely even aimed and clicked and got the best ever pic, unfortunately it had all the kitchen clutter in it so couldn’t use it professionally. Aint that always the way it happens!?

Indeed! I take a lot of any particular scene, knowing that closed eyes, a blink or a weird chew can mean all the difference.

Black dogs must be like bay mustangs … My family has had lots of black dogs over the years – the latest are two sisters. 🙂

Great winter photos!! Have always loved winter the most because (other than the possibility of hunters), wild places are so quiet and peaceful. Being in such places in winter “on nature’s terms” and with the horses – perfect!!!

Agreed. I love it, too. I think the basin becomes even more of a “character” in the winter, with the snow defining the ridgelines and erosion lines. Neverending circle of magic. 🙂

TJ, who is the ‘smiling’ white mare with the chestnut filly?
