Beautiful pictures. So glad they are all home and happy. Hope they stay this way for many years to come.
Fabulous! Mona still looks like she’s about to deliver. Will you be doing a calendar this year?
Errr … yes?! 🙂 I’ve been thinking about it … have to get to it! It can’t have been a year already?! Time flies with these ponies …
I think that many mares now are as round as Mona. This is the time of the year when they are fat and the pregnant mares’ bellies start to grow,so Mona would probaly foal next year.
The difference with Mona is that she should have foaled the middle of September (based on when Shane was born). Because I knew her due date, and because her band is so wary, I leave them alone quite a bit, so I wasn’t watching her closely leading up to her due date and don’t know when she actually foaled/lost the foal … not to mention that she still looked pregnant even after she apparently lost it … which is why, in October/early November, I was still looking for her to have a foal. If she did lose the foal sometime around her due date, she SHOULD be now pregnant again for next year … the question is when – definitely not early enough in the spring to be looking pregnant now, after having apparently lost that last foal.
Unless she missed conceiving for a few cycles (months) and still is pregnant (?! I don’t think so now – I think she’s just very healthy), we’re looking for another late-in-the-year foal from her in 2012. 🙂 Just have to wait and see.
I think that it’s better if a mare gives birth late in the year, and instead of getting pregnant again for a late foal next year,to get pregnant next spring and miss a year in which she can mature her foal well and try to put some weight.Sometimes that happens with our mares.
Corona looks fairly fat herself?
