These lovely ladies have made themselves at home in Spring Creek Basin. It surely beats wading through snow in the high country, though “snow” is a term planets away from this country this winter.
This pic was taken after sunset as I was walking away from a divine visit with the horses. Lots of critters call the basin home.
It’s a beautiful view, isn’t it?
But there’s something about adding a horse, wild, that takes a view this beautiful and makes it magic. Knowing they are there, in the wild heart of America, should make us all believe in things bigger and better than ourselves.

In the land of sunshine and postcard-perfect days, some clouds – and moisture – would be very welcome.
Skywalker is learning wild stallion ways from wary Master David.
And the moon rises! Clever boys, pointing it out. 🙂
Skywalker and David gave me a good visit, and I was heading out, when I looked back and saw that giant moon rising over the basin’s eastern ridgeline. Wow! Seconds later (?!), the sun dropped, and shadows claimed ground.
Not much snow out there.
S’aka and his buddy Maiku check me out as I walk up their favorite hill for a visit. From this perspective, they look like they’re on top of their world.
Isn’t he cute with his one (visible) bright eye? Friend and mustang adopter Tif recently mentioned a mutual friend, who adopted Maiku’s brother Milagro (now called Skipper). Maiku reminds me so much of Skipper, even though big brother is solid bay.
Maiku is barely a pinto, with a slash of white over his withers.
Wild pony is well-adapted to the winter, even though this one is terribly mild again so far.

Mr. Sundance isn’t missing any groceries this winter.
From the time I drove up, parked in the middle of the road, walked out and around, yakked with his young pals and took a bunch of pix, he never moved. Well, he found the energy to prick his ears at me a few times, but mostly he just stood napping and looking handsome.
