Maia has never left mama Alegre for another band. They’ve been together all of her life, which is now 14 years (!). 🙂

I find such soothing comfort seeing these wild horses in their wild lives through your beautiful photos. From reading your bio I’m so grateful for your advocacy and helping keep these horses free from the trauma and threat of roundups and separations. I didn’t know such a wild haven existed, even on tenuous ground, until now.

We have had an amazing experience here in Spring Creek Basin. While we had challenges in the first years I was involved (also, I was fortunate to join an established advocacy group that existed for the herd at the time), we gradually found our footing with our local BLM managers and started to get good things done. I’m thankful for even those challenging situations, especially at the beginning, because my stubbornness kicked in and led to us finding workable solutions with the mustangs always the priority. 😉 I still have such gratitude! The mustangs are worth it all. I’m glad you’ve found our haven of peace. 🙂

I don’t know the ins and outs of the challenges but it is inspiring to envision that this is possible even in a bureaucratic world especially with open minds and open hearts, and a lot of feminine ingenuity, collaboration, and especially stubbornness is imperative!

Ha – most of our BLM folks have been men (we have a fantastic young woman as our range tech now), so there’s been some good masculine energy and ingenuity, too! 🙂 Collaboration has been the main connecting thread to our good partnership, I think … with a little (!) stubbornness and a whole lotta perseverance! “Want to, can do” has been my motto for a number of years, and we have gone far with that principle. Thanks so much for your kinds words; they really mean the world!
