Flying prairie

Prairie falcon, that is. Soaring over Spring Creek canyon.

Through the camera viewfinder, I didn’t know what it was. Then I saw it on the computer screen and may have let out an exclamation of sheer delight! They’re not *uncommon*, but I was super glad to see this winged beauty!

This is a beautiful photo, TJ! He is gorgeous soaring away in mid-flight and scoping the ground. Looking for dinner perhaps?

Dunno, but fierce and glorious! I’m glad we have prairie falcons around!

Such cool diversity that you’re capturing ! Must be plenty of little, scurrying things for the falcon to eat. Great shot !

I read that they take a lot of little songbirds. Well … a bird’s gotta eat! But you’re right: Must be plenty of sources for them!

I love it! One of those miraculous (I don’t call them “lucky”) shots.

I would say a lotta luck was involved. I didn’t show all the OTHER images of a blurry blob flashing past my camera. 😉 I don’t know how bird photographers do it. Even when mustangs are on the move, they’re BIG and present a big focus area!

That is some wingspan! How big, if you were to make a guess?

I think what I read was a wingspan of up to 3.5 or so feet?
