In honor of those men and women who have died during the long defense of American freedom, take a moment today to remember their sacrifices and those of their families. War profits only the war-mongers, those who would benefit from others’ patriotism and keen defense of America’s values of democracy and equality and humanity. Those who fell must never be thought to have done so in vain but for that higher purpose.
Peace should always be our ultimate goal.

I had a couple of very enjoyable days in Spring Creek Basin this weekend.
We met briefly just before sunset on Saturday evening on your way back from attending to horses. I was keen to introduce myself properly and talk a little, but I was also scrambling to find a place to camp for the night and make something of sunset before the remaining light disappeared completely.
Visiting Spring Creek was long overdue experience for me and a wonderful culmination of a week when the Governor and bi-partisan state leadership recognized the significance of Colorado’s wild horses and the crucial role in-the-wild conservation can play in keeping our wild one’s wild.
I fully appreciate that, thanks to your efforts, Spring Creek Basin has set the standard for on-range management, and the health and wellbeing of the many stunning horses I encountered this weekend is testament to your dedication over many years.
The collaborative statewide model that Colorado is developing through the wild horse working group, built around a commitment to sustainable on-range management, is the key that Congress is looking for.
ln the meantime, I’ve just discovered your excellent blog and wonderful photographic chronicle of and look forward to keeping up to date with life in the Basin.
Best wishes
Scott Wilson
Thank you, Scott, for your very kind words about Spring Creek Basin. We have worked long and hard here with our BLM folks to ensure the best possible management strategies for our mustangs. All of Colorado’s on-range volunteer advocates spend hundreds of hours each year working for the benefit of the mustangs on their respective ranges (fertility-control darting, vegetation monitoring, range improvements, etc.). We appreciate that the state government has taken an interest to help further our decades-long commitment(s). I’m glad you had a lovely visit to Spring Creek Basin and with our mustangs. 🙂 We are rather proud of our beautiful and wild horses and hope everyone feels the magic here when they visit.
May we always remember with awe and gratitude the supremely selfless men and women who have forfeited their own lives for others. We live in freedom; we get to pursue our dreams; this is their gift to us. The least we can do is to remember them with reverence and live our lives well. Thank you for your tribute, TJ – well said.
Well said, Sue; indeed, we are grateful. 🙂
Happy Memorial Day, TJ and all the mustangs! Your beautiful life of peace , family and freedom inspire us with the best of our country’s strengths.
Thank you, Carol! I’m a daughter, granddaughter, niece and cousin (at least) of military members. I hope their service and that of countless others helps to inspire that peace and gratitude for our freedoms! 🙂
Freedom is never free! Thank you to all the men and women who gave their lives so we can enjoy it!
Well said, Karen!
Well said .
I am also a daughter, granddaughter, niece, cousin, and Aunt, and mother and wife of veterans who have served, and fought for our freedom. This day and every day I am grateful for their service.
Oh, Valerie – service to country runs deep in your family! Thanks (even posthumously) to all for their service!
