Winter friends

19 01 2024

This nice group of healthy elk was in the western part of Spring Creek Basin yesterday. The basin is a wintering ground for elk and mule deer; they find it welcoming at a lower elevation and not much snow (as shown).

The evidence that we’ve had snow is in the muddy, muddy ground (not visible but felt while hiking around)! The last forecast snowfall (Wednesday) gave us zilch again, so we’re hoping for some moisture Sunday and Monday.

We are getting snow right now – already have maybe 8″ on the ground. Much easier getting around now that the cussed ice is covered up. Of course when it melts???
Hope you get more – snow that is.

Glad you have snow to insulate the ground. We need snow to bring moisture. … Chances tomorrow and Monday. “Chances” haven’t done much for us lately, but we remain optimistic. 🙂

Hoping for more snow for your area! We have about 6 inches on the ground here in lower MI!

They are here, too. Some friends saw them the other day. I’ve just seen poop and tracks, but Teddy has seen them with his little Australian Shepherd eagle eyes. Today, though, I heard them. I love them

That’s awesome – about the elk and Teddy’s eagle eyes both! 🙂 They’re cool critters. I love to see them more often in the winter months.
