Temple still has the trickle of darker hair down her shoulder, but as she greys out more, it gets fainter.
Doesn’t she have the most lovely expression?
This was about a week ago; I’d nearly gotten rained out (wet roads in the basin are no joke!), but then Temple and her band appeared near the western boundary. Perfect location and timing (except the rain … that hasn’t been too plentiful, and now we’re back to heat and dry … ).
As though sheโs saying thank you TJ for helping to keep us safe.
How could I do anything less when faced with a face like that?! ๐
Temple is just so perfect! Even though she is a mustang through and through, she always looks impeccably groomed. What a beauty…and what an icon.
Right? Those mustang fairies, instead of braiding knots in her mane, are constantly combing it perfectly! ๐
She has such a nice soft eye. Sweet girl.
She does, and she is. Such a sweetheart.
What a beautiful gal she is! Really ageing well!
Yes, she is. ๐ She’s one of my very favorites (all of them being my “favorites,” of course!)!
Beautiful girl! Am I losing it? Wasn’t Temple born a bay? When you said Temple, that was what came up in my brain and to see her greyed out made me doubt my sanity.
Well, as you said, Temple has “greyed out.” ๐ Greys are born any color – bay, black, sorrel, dun (I wouldn’t have thought it, but I’ve seen it happen), palomino – and do, literally, turn grey over time until they’re what non-horse people call “white.” The timeline of greying varies from horse to horse; most of our Spring Creek Basin greys go grey fairly slowly – but not always.
I went back and found a post about mama Piedra and baby Temple: https://springcreekbasinmustangs.com/2012/04/18/piedra-plus-one/
You’ll notice that Piedra was much darker then, too. ๐
For reference, here’s a pic of Piedra taken about a month ago: https://springcreekbasinmustangs.com/2023/07/13/gold-n-serene/
Thanks for saving my sanity! I love Piedra. She is so gorgeous and her beautiful daughter is following in her footsteps.
I so agree. ๐
Great picture!
Thanks, Pat. ๐
She’s lovely. Our little burst of rain have given way to red flag warnings and some small fires in the San Juans. Small so far. Fingers crossed…
I love her. ๐ We’re definitely been under red-flag watches and warnings; I’ve lost track. Ugh. So dry.
Sheโs beautiful!! What a lovely picture of Temple๐
