Bugs-b-gone

Chrome

After a mud bath earlier in the day, Chrome decided that a dust bath was in order to solidify his caked armor against the biting flies. And boy, are they biting. Moisture brings bugs … in addition to sprouts of new grass, springing up everywhere, for which we’re very, very grateful. 🙂

Happy birthday, Dad!

Chrome

Happy birthday to my dad, who is a most awesome dad! He and my mom are totally responsible (to blame) for my utter addiction to horses. I don’t see them often enough, but at Thanksgiving, we’ll spend some time together and ride some horses together, and I’m looking forward to that holiday of gratitude.

In the meantime, have a beautiful, wild, wonderful birthday, Dad!

The bugs of summer

9 08 2016

Temple

A friend who follows baseball says the boys of summer play about 987 games per season (that may be a slight exaggeration; I can never remember). But to the mustangs, the buggy days of summer may feel at least that long. But as we make the turn toward fall, the days are getting cooler – dropping into the lower 90s from the upper 90s and 100s – and the swarms of biting, buzzing bugs are lessening to mere clouds.

We did get rain, which has been an enormous and huge relief and help.

Pizzaaaaazzzzzz

Skywalker

We should name some future foal Pizzazz – the mustangs sure have it! Skywalker has it in spades.

The face of wisdom

Bounce

Bounce, one of Spring Creek Basin’s grand old elders, is showing his age. He’s a lieutenant stallion for a younger (much younger) stallion, so he’s in good company to enjoy these summer days.

Oh, if he could talk … the stories he’d surely tell …

Kestrel and Comanche

Kestrelita and her beau, handsome Comanche – a “power couple” of Spring Creek Basin, together for many, many years.

Bringin’ the life up

5 08 2016

Killian

First of all, Disappointment Valley had a TREMENDOUS rainfall event Wednesday afternoon and evening – to the tune of nearly an inch. The mustangs and I are dancin’ in the streets – well, on the range. Well, I’m dancing, anyway! 🙂

Here’s Killian, on a much hotter, much drier day, warning another stallion away from his mares. He could almost be dancing …

Cue the music

Mysterium

Are you noticing a theme? Of course you are because all of Spring Creek Basin’s mustangs are gorgeous!

Here we have Mysterium, stepping from the shadows into the last light of a – dare I say – gorgeous day in the basin. 🙂

Mariah

File this one – of Mariah – also under “gorgeous.” As in … another gorgeous mustang girl on another gorgeous summer evening in uniquely gorgeous Spring Creek Basin.

Greens and greys

Chrome

How is it still green with so little (read: nearly no) rain??

Must be magic. And a bit of soft light. 🙂
