They don’t seem to mind the snow at all. Just another day on their home range. 🙂
Such a heart warming pic TJ. Okay, another question for you. Are the winter (read snow packed!) roads out at the Basin passable with 4WD or is it a snowshoes and provisions kind of undertaking?
If it’s really cold, the snow is frozen and good to drive on. That sounds strange; snow IS frozen?! But when the temperature is approaching the freezing mark, even in the 20s with our strong sunshine, the snow and – more importantly – the mud underneath is getting to the “you’d better think about calling it a day” stage or not driving in at all. The road leading to the basin often is a good indicator; if it’s dicey, you really don’t want to risk it. These very cold (single-digit) temps this week allowed me to drive to the interior and hike, but I hike in a lot from farther up the valley (the Disappointment Road, which runs adjacent to the basin for several miles).
Thank you so much for the info TJ. I know what you’re talking about – the “mashed potatoes” feel of thawing mud under snow. Been there many times on walks with my bulldog, and I can see how driving on that stuff would be very risky. Thanks again!
