4 seconds of fame

20 01 2009

Did you see the Border Patrol group during the inaugural parade? Did you catch the mustangs? The quick shot of the first two horses – black Okanogan and grey Bullet? – was great. Boy, were they shiny and handsome! I think two buckskins were next in line, and two buckskins brought up the rear; I couldn’t tell which was Justice.

I found this blog – http://beautifulmustang.blogspot.com/ – with some photos. She also thinks the lead horses were Okanogan and Bullet. There’s a buckskin in the background of one of the photos …? No mane on the left side – Zeus? Hard to tell.

The thing that hit me in the few seconds they were featured on the channel I watched (C-SPAN; I couldn’t stand the political jabbering on the other channels) was how calm the horses were! It looked like they were taking it all in stride. Pretty darn cool.

Thanks for linking to my blog–one of the BP agent’s wives did write and leave this comment afterward: (I’ll copy and paste as it reads)

BDBORCHES has left a new comment on your post “Happy Inauguration Day”:

The mustangs looked beauatiful in the parade! My husband, a Border Patrol Agent, trains and works with some of these mustangs everyday. He was riding Buck, the buckskin just behind Okanogan (at the front). We are very proud of the mustangs and the agents! For those who missed the B.P. Noble Mustangs in the parade, here are links to some footage:

I’m not sure if my last 2 comments posted. If not, I’ll submit it again–if it did, eek!

This is a comment from the BP agent’s wife left on my blog which you linked to above–I’ll copy and paste.

Absolutely. 🙂 Just to see the horses in a group, in the nation’s capital, made my heart sing.

Yes, the first two mustangs in the inaugural parade were Okanogan and Bullet, ridden by agent L. Pinkerton, Patrol Agent In Charge D. Graham. The next two, buckskins, were Buck (shown) and Brutus. Not sure about the order after that, although I can find out for you if you would like. My husband, a Border Patrol agent/B.P. wrangler, was the one riding Buck (the buckskin shown). We are very proud of the mustangs and the agents! They did a great job and looked terrific! My husband said that Buck, who usually is very calm, was a little anxious during the parade. Maybe it was the bitter cold temps and wind, who knows. Anyway, they are great animals. They are calmer and more friendly than our own horses! I may be able to post some pics of the B.P. mustangs taken before/after the parade. I’ll have to see if there are any restrictions on doing so.

Debbie,
Thanks so much for your comment and the extra information about the mustangs! Zeus and Justice must have been the buckskins paired up at the end. They looked absolutely terrific – I was in tears! I think everyone in the country who has a mustang or knows mustangs must have been so proud of the agents and the horses during the parade. What an honor! If you are able to send pictures or send a link to where they may be viewed, please do so. I think I’m not the only one who would love to see more than what was shown on TV! (And how cool for your husband and Buck to be shown! They looked awesome!)

Linda,
Your comments went into my spam folder for whatever reason, and I hardly ever check that! I had just discovered your blog through some of the others I look at – thanks so much for posting those video links on your blog. I’ve been making a regular part of my day!

Glad you enjoyed them T.J.. My husband just got back from D.C. Tue- I will see if I am allowed (by Border Patrol) to post some pics of the mustangs he took at the stables along the way. Looks like they had a good time running in the pens there.

Happy Trails!

Debbie,
Selfishly, I hope you do get permission! If you’re able, I can’t wait to see the pix! I hope all the agents and mustangs had a good experience in their travels.
