Happy Independence Day!

4 07 2012

By the sacrifices of others, America won independence and the right to freedom for her people. Those who continue to sacrifice do so that we may continue to know that right, which we so often take for granted.

For our “Blessings of Libety,” we all are thankful.

Dosed

2 06 2012

Dear readers,

Roach must have taken exception to me wallowing … you’re about to overdose on cuteness, and you have Roach to blame thank.

One new face, three new names. Every reason to be thankful.

And rain. Not much. Not long. Maybe it’s the start of more to come.

Dear Roach – Godspeed.

Time, blessed

16 05 2012

Where, oh where does it go?

Days are full. Days are getting longer – and starting earlier. Days are busy. Days are magic. Days are happy.

Image

Note to family and friends: I am so thankful for each of you. That I’m totally and literally “carried away by wild horses,” you know and appreciate and support fully. How did I come to be so blessed?

Image

This morning, what a morning. Not another human being for leagues. Surrounded by 48 horses – not just any horses, THE horses – and plants with names I know and don’t know and am learning, secret trails and not-so-secret byways, caressed by spring wind – still chilly at times – cushioned by solid earth, warmed by golden light – amazed. Awed. Inspired. One new little life. I knew him (!) as a big, round belly … and now here he is. Can you imagine the miracle?

Image

Every day, somewhere, babies are born – human and otherwise – it happens in every time zone, on (almost?!) every continent. It happens with support and without, in conditions good and bad. Some little being takes a gulp of air, and the world heaves a sigh of happiness. Next? Oh, next comes … everything.

Image

Normal? Taken for granted? Never. The magic of life, continuing, can be nothing less than celebrated as the miracle it always is.

Image

Thank you all for sharing this journey. A strange post, maybe, but I’m still riding high the beauty of the day. I just needed to express the absolute joy I have in the horses, all they mean to me, that I may share with you who have come to love them. What an amazing journey it continues to be.

Tif & Asher & Ze!

29 11 2011

You have to see these guys to believe them.

Gorgeousity overload!

Asher

Stud muffin – emphasis on the muffin!

He’s going grey. He doesn’t resemble *totally* mama (Chipeta) OR daddy (Ty), but I think he has the best of both.

Asher and Tif’s awe-some gelding Quest.

Lovelovelovelovelovelovelovelovelovelovelovelovelove

No words … heart singing with utter joy.

Where, oh where …

10 09 2011

… did Winona go??

Verra braw!

9 09 2011

How can one day be at once so good … and so filled with sorrow?

It starts in a week … what to say? Lots and more and more again. It is what it is, and we’ll endure it and move on.

Until then …

Who is THIS handsome hunk of a mustang stallion??

Hint: While I’ve seen him and his young band all summer, it has always been from a distance.

I can’t get over him. Wow!

Chrome’s band

13 07 2011

Chrome’s band is the current welcoming party to the basin, hanging out in the area of Filly Peak.

Who wouldn’t be welcomed by this sight?

Mama Jif is growing wider.

Hayden is a good big brother to Rio and Boreas.

Boreas and Rio

Boreas and mama Two Boots

Little Mr. Handsome!

Littlest Mr. Handsome! 🙂

Rain?

30 06 2011

Check.

Dust?

Check.

Smoke?

Probably.

Holy smokes.

One of the craziest days I’ve seen – and a lot of it cleared by the time I left the basin … Well, most but the wind. The WIND. Ferocious? Check.

Do you see what I see?

And that’s what it looked like till the wind blew it away.

My agonized prayers are with all those who have or who are evacuating from their homes because of the wildfires. The smoke here in Southwest Colorado is most likely from the Las Conchas fire near Los Alamos. We pray also for the firefighters working in horrible conditions to save lives and homes.

Be careful out there.

Parade of foals

9 06 2011

This is not for Spring Creek Basin mustangs but for those taken off the Carson National Forest, our neighbors just to the south in New Mexico. It’s sponsored by the Mustang Camp and the Forest Service and will be held fro 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, June 11, at the Wild Horse Holding Facility, 333 Browning Parkway in Farmington.

Thanks to Linda Horn of Farmington for the heads-up, and if anyone is local and interested, here’s more information: https://sites.google.com/site/yrokaycorral/home/parade-of-foals-event

Memorial Day

30 05 2011

This young woman had recently sought and received permission to play “Taps” at the funeral of her uncle, an Air Force veteran. She played “Taps” at the Memorial Day service this morning in Dolores, Colo. Several of her family members are veterans.

In honor of both my grandpas, U.S. Army and Army Air Corps veterans of World War II, in honor of my father, U.S. Army veteran, in honor of my uncle, U.S. Navy veteran, in honor of two cousins, U.S. Navy SEALs currently serving, in honor of friends past and present, serving and retired, may God bless our men and women in uniform – and their families – and the sacrifices made by all.
