This handsome guy is – in fact – Guy, band stallion in Piceance-East Douglas Herd Management Area near Meeker. My friend Pam Nickoles gave me the ID after confirming with her friend Dona Hilkey.
Isn’t he a beefcake? I couldn’t get over how stout and SHINY these horses all were.
The horses pictured are just part of his band; he had another mare and foal pair, and another single mare. Gorgeous family!

What an absolute gift to spend time with these mustangs near the top of Green Mountain in Wyoming! Many, many thanks again to Lynn for map, directions and info. Thank you, thank you for sharing these amazing, wild Wyoming mustangs!
Finally, it was nap time for the whole band, but instead of lying down, they congregated under this gorgeous pine tree on the far edge of the meadow from where they’d been when I first saw them. … Oddly enough, the presence of my Jeep, parked nearby (I was not aware that this was their favorite tree in the whole meadow!), didn’t deter them.
This was my cue to take my leave of these gorgeous wild lovelies in their stunning mountain home.

And not too much later, Daddy himself laid down for a roll and a quick shut-eye. 🙂
THIS gorgeous girl was like the prettiest little wild Welsh pony mare on the planet. Isn’t she lovely?

His resemblance to our Comanche was really striking.
It was the perfect time and temperature for naps, surrounded by mamas and aunties. Keep your eye on the little black beauty with the giant star at far left behind mama …

This little charmer was by far the most curious of the three foals in this band, often grazing her way oh-so-casually into the view of the camera. 🙂 The bay filly in the background might be her big sister; they were often close to the same mare (not pictured).
Pretty mamas and babies on Green Mountain.
This is a band of 13 in the same meadow as the band of three previously pictured. Rocks are scattered throughout this beautiful meadow in the forest, and a few of them served as perfect perches during my visit. I’d love to know more about the geology that caused the placement of the rocks, but mostly I was happy to just sit and enjoy the scenery!
This was my last close view of the little family as I turned my attention to the bigger band toward the end of my visit. I love how baby girl is sandwiched between mama and daddy, completely and totally safe and protected.
