Never have I thought it would be cool to see the basin from the perspective of above, via a drone, as much as yesterday. The craziest snow squall I may ever have seen went from southeast to northwest across the middle-ish and western parts of Spring Creek Basin and across the areas immediately southwest, west and northwest of the basin (and I can’t say how far north/northwest it continued). No snow from about Disappointment Road west, and none from just above the corrals (along the road on the basin side in the southwestish area of the basin) on up-valley.
It would have been amazing to see the actual line of snow-no-snow from the air, looking straight down.
The above pic with the pronghorns, in the western part of the basin looking northeastish, illustrates it fairly well. Usually if anywhere gets snow, it’s that eastern side of higher-elevation ridges, not NOT that side AND the lower/interior/western part of the basin.
Morning chores prevented me from getting out until the snow had stopped and the sun was shining through the clearing clouds, but this snow DID make the ground damp – wonderfully so.
Not in the forecast (what is happening with the poor forecasts lately?!), but this snow was very welcome!
Sorry again that you arent getting more of what you need. Its snowing here again – very cold – my thermometer is inside a shed & it says 17 right now. I cant complain – I’m liking actual true winter this year. Wish all of us were enjoying it.
Gorgeous picture
While dry conditions make access easy, come spring and definitely summer, we’re going to be desperate and wishing we had gotten our winter allotment of snow. The temp at my house this morning was 8F. π No liquid water at that temp!
So glad for the snow, even a little! Hope more is on the way!
Even a little is something to celebrate during these dry, dry days. And we always hope for more, as we rarely have *enough*! π Hope you got your 2-3 inches?
We got about 4 inches. We are not as dry as in your area!
Four inches! Nice! I’d like to get that much in one storm. Manageable. π
That is a really strange little confined snow dump out there! We had a bunch of those squalls all around us yesterday too but none over us. Glad you got some moisture out the patchwork storms, TJ. And yes – the forcasts. They are just useless these days…and so wrong…most of the time. You just have get up in the morning and see for yourself what’s actually going on! π
Yeah, crazy. Usually it’s up-valley that gets the snow, if ajy part of Disappointment Valley gets snow, so in that way, we got the benefit, but it was just kinda wild! I used to have a little yarn “doll” that had a sign … something about “if it’s sunny, the sun is shining; if it’s raining, it’s cloudy; if you want to see the weather, look outsiddoesn’t! π It would be nice to know it’s coming. That said, when the forecasters SAY it’s coming, it usually doesnt!
