Fortunately, there were a few lucky deer after this anxiety-ridden last set of hunting seasons. And now that the two-legged predators seem to have (?) left, they’re much more visible, courting their dear does.

Lucky “dears” indeed! We’ve had a nice buck and his lovelies roaming our property for a few days now, and we’re always glad to host survivors. It’s heart-warming to see them alive and well! That’s a nice group out there too! Beautiful photos, TJ!

Unsure if our “hunting” season is over or not – very few gunshots this year – to me a good thing – altho I keep hearing how MANY deer there are. Only see a certain few here & around the woods above me.
You ought to be able to look up your state’s (New York?) hunting seasons/dates. I do it every year for Colorado so I know when they start … and importantly, when they END. 😉
The thing is – my place is posted and the woods up back are posted. No one was sighting in their guns that I heard – doubt there are any hunters in the area. Things have definitely changed since 40 years ago when I moved up here. But yeah I do know I can look it up. Thanks TJ

I haven’t seen many around my place the last couple of years, probably due to water sources are dry. ☹️
Very good about your hunting season being over. Super bummer about so many of your water sources being dry. One of the hunters this year was actually a very nice young man from Oregon, where they had big fires this year. He was very interested in the water catchments; they’ve tried to get their BLM interested in numerous designs without success. I gave him contact information for his guys to talk to our guys (one retired, two now with the Forest Service) about our wonderful water catchments! Maybe your neighborhood or community can brainstorm ideas for a couple of local water sources? If it’s doable?
I love these guys. They’re moving through “my” Refuge, but they are very wary.
I don’t doubt it! These deer – especially the pictured buck and another one – were very wary initially, then their laser focus returned to the does!
